It is customary to wear a thali as an important event in a wedding. The talik rope which secures the bond between husband and wife consists of nine strands. These nine strands are believed to represent the nine principles of life.
The talikodi is usually worn on a yellow rope. Due to the change of time most people wear thali with gold chain. They believe that wearing a gold chain is easier to maintain than wearing a yellow rope. The main cause is dirt and perspiration on the yellow rope. To avoid this thali is worn on a gold chain.
Those who wear thali with yellow rope once a week rub oil on the thali rope, rub some shampoo to remove dirt and clean the thali rope to make it shiny. Then mix some water with turmeric powder and apply it on the rope, it will be auspicious for the new fetus to be yellow in color.
People wearing chain thali need not apply turmeric. On special days like Fridays and Tuesdays, it is good to worship Thirumangalyam with some kumkum. It is said that Mangalya worship is necessary for prolonging the life of the husband and for progress in life.
Some keep safety pins (safety pins) in the mangalya which is revered as sacred. This will hinder the husband's progress and income. Any metal articles should not be worn along with the Thali or prayed in Thirumangalyam. The reason is that iron is a metal that has the vision of lord Saturn. It is better not to ask for things like safety pin in Talichart as it gives negative energy.
Likewise, the nappy should not be changed too often. If the rope is frayed or the thread is separated, it is a good time to change the rope. Some people change the belt too often due to oil slick, dirt etc. This is also wrong.
Some people pray to God and add the Thirumangalyam they are wearing to the temple money. This is also wrong. You can buy new thirumangalyam and add it to your bank account. It is not acceptable to God to add the thali tied by the husband's hands to the temple money at the wedding with God as a witness.
