Tuition system in India is a great setback to the entire education system as well as schooling. Now a days, it has become a platform for learning and making business. Parents think that going for a tuition is a very normal part in their kids regular routine. In schools, especially in remote villages, there is a shortage of teachers, therefore students are left with no options but to go for tuition. Rate of growth of tuition and coaching system can also be related with the ever increasing competition amongst the students. As the competition is increasing, students do not plan about how to divide their time for giving importance to the extra studies that they have to make for cracking the exams. Also, by seeing other students, other parents force their kids for the same, without concerning whether the kids really need to go there.
It really started with the upper and middle class, but now its not limited only to these sections. Students belonging to lower classes are also attending tution. We know that some of the toughest exams in India like JEE, NEET, CAT, UPSC exams etc do need a lot of hardwork and discipline amongst students for getting success but cant we prepare for them by ourselves, we need to crack it and work there in future, so cant we plan it from an earlier stage itself, by making a regular habit and a promising habit for it. Like nursery students are going for tuitions and for JEE even an 8th standard student is taking up coaching, I dont understand whats the early need in that. Let the student realize, what path to choose, whether the line really interests them or not and then he can take up the decision of exams.
One of the reasons why tuition business in India has gained so much importance is the way teachers teach in school. They don't show any concerns about whether the child is learning anything or not, they just have one task as of completing the syllabus on time. Only because the tuition fees completely belongs to them, they take separate tuition for students who don't understand the concepts in school. Though not every teacher is like this, but majority of them belong to this category now. Still there are many teachers who are willing to help anytime and are against tuition.
Tuition system is predominantly found in India but not in any other developed country or in country where education is given much importance. But it is very difficult to uproot this problem in India as we no longer consider tuition a problem, but a part of schooling and education. One of the major setbacks of this system in India is the decline in quality of education in schools. Education today is not the transmission of knowledge, but has become a very successful trade.
We need to believe and make our children believe that we can become successful by doing hardwork ourselves, without taking help from these tuition and all and this will help us in the long run also. We need to change ourselves and then only a change in system can be desired. Also laws should be made for tuition and should be enforced with strictness.
