DIVINE LIGHT (PART 1)

    Whenever there is oppressiveness on the Earth, whenever people's faith in God weakens, the Lord appears as a saint to protect religion, to destroy unrighteousness and reawaken the love of God in the minds of the people. As Lord Krishna says:

When righteousness is seen to decline, 

Men towards wickedness verily incline, 

Then in body I manifest Myself,

On earth I come to their help.

Annihilating wickedness and unrighteousness,

I come and protect all goodness,

I incarnate for truth's estabishment, 

In every age, to human predicament.

    India was in a great trouble when Babar invaded India. His captives were forced to do rigorous physical labor. The rulers were cruel and undemocratic. There was religious harassment. Religious people were disgraced and prevented from pursuing their religious rites. It is at this critical stage that Divine One Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj made his appearance with a message of peace, unity, love and devotion to the Lord.

    A small village, Talwandi, between Ravi and Chenab rivers was chosen by the Almighty to appear as Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj. The fortunate mother was Tripta Devi. The pious father Kalu Chand Bedi, affectionately called Kalu, was an accountant in the village.

    The midwife was surprised, "I never heard the baby cry", she said in bewilderment. I heard only laughter. It was the sweet-sounding laughter of a young man.

    It was morning in mid-April of 1469. People flocked to see the unique child. Hindus came, so did Muslims. The child's delightful smile had captivated every heart.

    Pandit Hardayal Ji was called in soon. The astrologer was taken aback. He indulged in calculations over and again. He was confused at the results and said, "Hindus and Muslims will both worship this boy. Oceans will give way to him. He will lead a glorious life."

    Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji grew up. When He was just six months old, He started sitting crossed legged.
