Diabetes: what to avoid? and what to follow?

The overall health of a person depends upon daily routine, exercise, meditation, and diet. The most important thing is diet. Diet should be balanced. This means that the number of carbs, fat, protein, and vitamins should be in the required amount.

The question that comes now is, how a person gets diabetic?

Diabetes is a condition in which the blood sugar level is higher than the required amount. The normal blood sugar in a healthy human should be less than 180 mm Hg. If the levels are higher than that, then it leads to elevated blood sugar levels and a person suffers from diabetes.

The hormone that controls the blood sugar level is Insulin. Insulin is produced by the beta cells of Langerhans, found in the endocrine part of the pancreas. In a Diabetic person, the efficiency of insulin decreases. 

Symptoms of Diabetes.

Higher blood sugar levels may cause damage to the retina of your eye. This may lead to poor eyesight. As the blood sugar levels are high in a diabetic patient, there is poor absorption of sugars in neurons. As a result, glucose is also released along with urine. This disease is called diabetes insipid us.

So you can correlate diabetes mellitus with diabetes insipid us. Diabetes mellitus also leads to disease in the intestine and also heart-related diseases. Now let's move to our main topic that is dos and don'ts for diabetic patients.

 What to do, if you are suffering from diabetes.?

 Blood sugar level depends upon the number of nutrients and quality of the food that you consume every day. So diet is the most important thing. 

The very first thing that you have to manage, is your diet. Now, what should not be included in your diet? 

All those foods that are rich in saturated fats, sugars, and cholesterol should not be added to your diet. You should about such foods. Avoid sugar, salts, sweets, chocolates, pastries, cake, fried food, and Jaggery.

Some people think that Jaggery is good for diabetic patients, but it could be fatal. Because both Jaggery and sugar contain some carbs, so how can they perform different functions? 

Even honey should be avoided. Potatoes, sweet potatoes, jam, mango, Banana should also be avoided.

If we talk about flour, then Pine flour should be avoided as it has the least fiber and leads to indigestion. If you take white rice then, try to take it in very less amount. Instead of white rice, you can use brown rice. It's the best alternative for a diabetic person.

Again, diet should be balanced. You should take Chapati and rice in equal proportion so that, it balances your carb, fat, and protein, and vitamins.

If you love non-veg, then instead of beef you should prefer chicken or eggs. You should also avoid goat meat. If you are suffering from cholesterol, you should avoid egg yolk.

You can prefer fish if you love to eat non-veg. If you want to take milk products, then prefer to buttermilk. You can prefer cow milk instead of buffalo's milk. Because buffalo's milk is high in fat, whereas cow's milk is fat-free.

Vegetables that you should avoid are potatoes, chilies, and Tomatoes.

Which oil is best for diabetes?

Peanut oil, olive oil, Soyabean oil, mustard, rice bran, and sunflower oil are beneficial. In south India, palm oil is also used as an edible. But a diabetic person should avoid palm oil. But it is rich in saturated fats.

 Is alcohol good for diabetes or not?

If you take a moderate amount of alcohol, then there is an increase in your blood sugar level. The high amount of alcohol may lead to hypoglycemia.

Alcohol drinkers who suffer from hypoglycemia are not able to identify those symptoms. 

Measuring Blood sugar.

The best time to check the blood sugar is before the meals. So you can know your blood sugar level, and according to the requirement, you can manage your meals. 

After 2 hours of your meals, you should again check your blood sugar level with a glucometer.
