Dental Health and Oral hygeine

  • The mouth reflects a person's general health and well being. 
  • Sound oral health is a vital aspect of a total health.
  • Poor oral health can negatively impact self image and ability to socialise.
  • Toothache or tooth pain can effect the day to day activites of the person.

 

Good oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist will help uou maintain healthy teeth and gums.

Here are some tips to help you look after  your teeth.

1. Brush atleast twice daily. the best time to brush the teeth is after meals. Choose a tooth brush with a small head for better access to back tooth and soft bristles. 

2. Use flouridated tooth paste. flourdated tooth paste forms a protective ayer on the teeth and prevents the decay of the teeth.

3. Brush thoroughly. tooth brushing should be in between 2-3 minutes. We need to brush the front teeth inup and down motion and back teeth in circular motion.

4.Floss your teeth daily. use the floss in gentle slow sawing motion.

5.limit acidic beverage's. they soften the hard tooth material and dissolve the minerals in the tooth enamel and causes tooth decay.

6. Limit sugary foods. bacteria in the plaque change the sugers into acid and these acids causes the tooth decay.

7. Protect the tooth from injury. use of mouth guards and face protectors while playing sports.

8. Try to save knocked out tooth. if possible,place the tooth into the socket until u seek dental help or place the tooth in milk and seek dental advice immediatly.

9. Avoid using your teeth for anything other than chewing food. if you use teeth to open bottle tops, plastic wraps or crack open nuts your at a risk of tooth chipping or lose of tooth.

10. Use mouth wash.  use chlorexidine mouth wash daily twice after brushing. Mouth helps to reduce the bad smell and kills bacteria which cause decay.

11. Regular dental check up. its advised to visit every 6months for a good oral health.
