Biography of Chinua Achebe (part 2)

     Chinua Achebe is man who invented African literature. He was able to show in the structure and Language office first novel, That the future of African writing did not lie in simple imitation of european forms but in the fusion of such forms with oral traditions. Chinua Achebe is the conscienc of African literature because he has consistently insisted on the power of story- tellers.

    He got an appointment as a convener in Nigerian broadcasting corporation. He became the director of the easrern zone in 1969 during the course of his services in the broadcasting department, he earned a great fame due to his devoted peromance. He was then oppointed director in the broadcasting at Lagos. During his services in the broadcasting corporation, he was provided with an opportunity to go to Landon training in BBC, Landon. Thus, he served in various Broadcasting Corporation from 1961 to 1966.

   He visited Brazil and Great Britan. He also travelled in east and central Assia. He was awarded Nigerias biggest price for his wisdom wiz. The Nigeria national merit award 1963. He got UNESCO award and got a chance to study in USA. 

   Nigeria sivil was came to an end with the defeat of biafra. He had to chuck his Broadcasting career to return to Nigeria for the fear of his life because he had given a wide publicity and support to the cause of biafra during the course of civil was. He was then out of job and was at a last to understand what to do. In 1971, he started working as a publisher. He published the works of young African authors and encouraged them to writ more regarding African cultur and traditions. He edited their works himself and thus came to be canwn as the publisher and editor of the African writers series. Chinua Achebe`s "Things Fall Apart" was the first novel published in the so, called series. This novel had a thumping sale at home and abroad. in those days, there was no Nigerian publishing agency in exited and foreign publishers mustly Britishers held the mmonopoly in this field.The had the tendency to exploit the poor African writers. It was only with a purpose to restrict this tendency of the foriegn publishers that Achebe had founded a Journal, 'Okike' which became very popular and encouraged African writers to write more.

Chinua Achebe';s literary worKs as much as the Ibo stories he had heard as a child. The Ikemcfuna Episod in 'Things Fall Apart'. To site just one example his fashioned after Abraham's aborted sacrifice of Isaac in the Old Tastanent to appeal to the morality and humanity of +the readers and to give their life fuller meaning.
