Marvel has always had a pretty prominent spot in the gaming industry, dating all the way back to 1982's Spider-Man on the Atari 2600. While the quality of its games has varied pretty heavily over the decades, Marvel has released a plethora of games in that timespan, and it seems as though that continued effort is finally paying off. Over the last few years, Marvel has been knocking it out of the park when it comes to AAA video game releases. Though Marvel's Avengers wasn't great, Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and Guardians of the Galaxy easily made up for it, and each paved the way for an even brighter future for Marvel games.
Even though Marvel currently only has one video game set to release in 2023, that one release is one of the most anticipated games of the year. If that wasn't enough on its own, Marvel also has plenty of projects on the horizon that fans could get a better look at in 2023, even if they won't get their hands on them for another year or so.
Everything Revealed About Marvel's Spider-Man 2 So Far
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 was announced in September 2021 and has been double-confirmed for a 2023 release, with a recent Sony blog post reducing that release date to Fall 2023. Following the events of the previous game and its spinoff Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 follows an adult Peter Parker as he battles some of his most legendary foes. This time, he appears to be teaming forces with Miles to fight Kraven the Hunter and Venom. However, this version of Venom may differ from previous iterations, with the post-credits of the first game and Miles Morales strongly indicating that Harry Osborn will be central to the plot.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will also be a PS5 exclusive, which is upsetting for those stuck on previous-generation platforms. This does, however, imply that Insomniac can truly push the technological limitations of the PS5, delivering an experience that is aesthetically even more spectacular than its outstanding predecessors. Fans can anticipate full DualSense support, as well as lightning-fast loading times and buttery-smooth framerates.
Marvel's Midnight Suns Is Set to Get DLC in Early 2023
Marvel's Midnight Suns gained widespread critical acclaim upon its release at the end of last year, and while some fans were hesitant before the game's release, the game appears to have won over the great majority in the end. Midnight Suns was delayed several times before finally arriving in December on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, with past-gen versions expected for 2023. Along with those versions, gamers will be treated to some Midnight Suns DLC in 2023, which will introduce four new characters to the game.
