Asia's 2nd largest monolithic hill

Madhugiri is once called maddagiri is taluk located Tumkur district(Karnataka state,India).As name represents the Madhu-Honey ,Giri-Mountain ,which means a lots of honey was found in the during the old days.This mountain is one of the largest monolithic hill in Asia.A fort was built in this hill in 17th century by Raja Hire Gowda.The Gowdas started rulling this fort.The fort was later improved by Haider Ali.Famous temple Dandinamarra located at the entrance of madhugiri .Their is also Jain temple on the precincts of madhugiri fort.

At 3930ft,a lot of steep slopes In the hill.There are 3 Gatesways in the hill they are antharalda bagilu,Didda bagilu & mysuru gate .A ruined temple of Gopalakrishna found located at the top of hill.Madhuguri is well know for handloom cloth and blankets,A superior rice named "chinnada salakki"  a golden stick grown in this taluk.

Madhugiri hill is located at 45km from Tumkur.110km from Bangalore.The monolith hill and the surrounding Greenary are the main attraction of madhugiri.A Venkataramanaswami Temple & Malleshwara temple were found in madhugiri ,which was built by Vijayanagar kingdom in Dravidian style. A Mallinatha temple which was built during 1531AD which has five metal idol of Lord Mallinatha.The temple is well know for it's architecture in stone and has idol seating in kandasana posture.

* Jayamangali blackbuck reserve which is 25km from madhugiri.

* Chennaryana Durga which is 10km from madhugiri towards kortagere, a fort is their in hill ,In which lots of battle were fought during old days.Now it's popular for trekking.

* Thimmalapura Forest which is Rich In peafowls and sloth bears.

* Midigesi,is the headquarters of the hobli,which is about 20km from madhugiri.In midigesi their is a hill which was fortified by Nagi reddy on olden days,Their is a statue of woman found in hill which resemble heroic woman called chikkamallamma.
