Apple closes all its stores worldwide due to the coronavirus, except in China

Given the expansion of the coronavirus in the west, Apple has decided to close all its stores outside China until March 27, to safeguard the health of its workers and also contribute to social welfare.

This global announcement joins the previous one that was already made for the national territory, where Apple announced that they would close their stores that are open in Spain due to the unstoppable advance of the coronavirus. The announcement joins the statement of alarm status where all non-essential establishments will be closed for at least 15 days. Apple had already closed its 17 stores in Italy for weeks, and currently, there is no close date for its opening, given that in Italy the advance of the virus is even more devastating than in Spain.

During the last days, Apple had launched a sanitation and social distancing plan in all its stores around the world due to the high concentrations of confirmed cases of Covid-19. In any case, it is already unsustainable, and those from Cupertino have announced the global closure of all their stores except for China.

The announcement made by CEO Tim Cook points out in a letter that you can read on the official website that “the most effective way to minimize the risk of virus transmission is to reduce density and maximize social distance. We are committed to providing exceptional service to our clients. ”The Apple online store will continue to operate during the downtime of the physical stores although there are many doubts about what will happen right now with the repair workshops that Apple has in Spain.

In principle, Apple has issued this closure until March 27 at least, but in countries especially affected by the coronavirus such as Spain, this date range is likely much higher.

Apple Inc. will close all its retail stores outside Greater China, a dramatic example of how companies are clamping down on business activity to slow the spread of the coronavirus to their employees and customers.

To date, Apple to date has committed $15 million worldwide in donations to the global COVID-19 response, according to Cook. The company is matching employee donations two-to-one to support response efforts to the pandemic locally, nationally and internationally.
