A recent study examines the health impact of comsuming alcohol at different ages. The authors conclude that, for people over the age of 50, the health risk may be less severe.
Heavy Drinking is linked to the range of serious heath consequences.
These included certain Cencer, liver and heart disease and damage to the nervous system, including the brain.
The Researchers argue that the way thar earlier studies measured alcohol's impact on heath might be flawed. Specifically they note that the studies are generally observation and usually recurit participates over the age 50
According to my Almost 40% of death due to alcohol comsumption occur before age 50
This means that the vast majority of research in to the potentail risk of alcohol do not take these deaths in to account and could underestimate the real danger.
The analysis showed that the level of an individual's,alcohol risk was havily influenced by age
In total 35.8% alcohol related death occur in peoples aged 20-49.
When looking at death that were prevented by alcohol consumption, the scientist found only 4.5% in this age of group.
When that looked at individual aged 65 or over, it was a differntly story, Although a similar 35% of alcohol related death occured in this group. It has been founfed that a huge age 80% of the deaths prevented by alcohol in this demographic.
The researchers also saw this strak difference between age group when theny looked at the number of potentail years lost to alcohol .
The showed that 58.4 percent of the total number of tears lost occured in those age 20-49, however this age of group only accounted for 14.5 percent of the years of the life saved by drinking
Conversely, the over 65 group accounted for 15 percent of the overall years life lost but 50 percent of the year saved.
Alcohol is a short term and long term effects.Drinking a small amount can help people feel relaxed, but too much too often. Can be harmfull for death.
