7 Core Places to visit in Chittagong Town

PATENGA SEA BEACH

Patenga sea beach is located on the south borderline of Chittagong in the Bay of Bengal. It is 16 kilometers away from Chittagong Town. This is a great recreational spot for locals. The beach is very crowded on the weekend.  There are many shops selling handicrafts made of coral, pearl, and other marine materials.

NAVAL SEA BEACH

The naval sea beach is another great spot for sea lovers. It is just opposite of Patenga sea beach on the east and 3 kilometers away from it. This is not basically a beach, but a riverbank. The Karnaphuli river meets the sea at this point.

The butterfly park is situated near it. Ships go to the port through this path. This is a great harbor for ships. Peoples from all walks of life gather here to avoid the nuisance of metro life.  This is very crowded on the weekend. The nice gentle breeze of the river with hot tea and hot spicy foods makes our evening wonderful.

BHATIARY

Bhatiary is the name of a place surrounded by hills with forests. It is located 16 kilometers north of Chittagong town. There are many resorts and recreation centers, theme parks. The natural beauty of Bhatiary is marvelous.

You can see the sunsets from the hilltop, where the sun sets into the sea. One restaurant named SUNSET is located on top of the hills from where you can enjoy the skyline and sea aligned together.

CHITTAGONG WAR CEMETERY

This is a historical place where commonwealth soldiers were buried who died in World War II. This is located across from the ShilpoKola Academy in the middle of the town. The place is very soothing, surrounded by natural beauty. The place is very well maintained. This cemetery takes you back to the 20the century history of the world war.

Soldiers of many nationalities under the commonwealth were buried here. You will feel surprised that once upon a time, this area was crowded with many foreign nationals.  The British Army created this cemetery.

There are 400 burials initially. Later, graves have been relocated in Chittagong War cemetery from Assam's Lushai Hills, Chittagong Civil Cemetery, Panchlaish Burial Ground, Dhaka Military Cemetery, Cox's Bazar New Military and Civil Cemeteries, Demagiri Cemetery, Dhuapolong Muslim Burial Ground, Dhuapolong Christian Military Cemetery, Lungleh Cemetery of Assam, Nawapara Cemetery of Assam, Patiya Military Cemetery, Rangamati Cemetery, Tejgaon Roman Catholic Cemetery, Tumru Ghat Military Cemetery, Tumru M.D.S. Hospital Cemetery. 

There are now 731 burials of the 1939-45 war. 17 burials are unidentified. Apart from commonwealth soldiers, there are 20 foreign national burials: 19 Japanese soldiers, 4 non-war British Military burials, and 1 Dutch Navy.

ETHNOLOGIVAL MUSEUM

Ethnology describes the cultural differences among the people of various sects. This is the only Ethnological Museum in Bangladesh. It is located in Agrabad, Chittagong. It was established in 1965, before Bangladesh Independence. However, it opened in 1974 for the people. To know the ethnological history of Bangladesh, this place is great to visit.

It has 4 galleries and a small hall. The gallery displayed the lifestyle of various ethnic groups through art and artifacts. This museum also displays the artifacts, art, and customs of people of present times for future generations to look back in history. 

BUTTERFLY PARK 

The butterfly park is one of the most attractions in Chittagong. It is located near the naval beach 16 kilometers away from the Chittagong town. There is a live butterfly zone, artificial lake, fish feeding zone, and butterfly feeding zone. There are also resorts to enjoy the warm evening with spicy hot food.

There are also playing zone for the children and other recreational facilities for all ages. You will feel the heat of the Bay of Bengal as it is just 1 kilometer away from it. This place is worth visiting.
