WWE Hell In A Cell 2019: ‘The Fiend’ Vs. Seth Rollins Match Draws Massive Criticism And Fan Backlash

The next WWE pay-per-view should be Backlash, because that’s exactly what the promotion is recearen the main event of Hell in a Cell left fans in attendance at the Golden 1 Center booing, and most of the WWE Universe abroad scratching their heads in the worst way.

After a lengthy and mostly entertaining build, “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins clashed in what was supposed to be an epic confrontation. Instead, we saw WWE attempt to re-write its rules, but failing miserably with a character they had built so carefully.

In an effort to continue to establish “The Fiend’s” invincible aura, and to keep the Universal title on Rollins, the former ate 15 Curb Stomps from the champion. Still, “The Fiend” kicked out of multiple pin attempts at 1 counts. Fans in the arena were booing as loudly as I can ever remember hearing them at a pay-per-view or Raw as it was clear WWE’s plans for the match weren’t working out well.

Stubbornly, Rollins poured on his attack inside the cell. He used chairs, ladders, toolboxes and other dangerous props to pound the Fiend. At one point, The Fiend lie in the middle of the ring covered with props and Rollins held a sledgehammer in his hands ready to crush his opponent’s face.

The referee urged him not to go through with the act, but ultimately he did. Immediately, Rollins was disqualified...in a Hell in a Cell match. If you’ve been watching WWE programming for any length of time, you know there is never a DQ in a HIAC match. It’s totally inexplicable to play that card in this situation.

The stretcher was called in for “The Fiend,” but predictably he popped up and used the Mandible Claw on Rollins. The ring cleared and “The Fiend” began to work Rollins over. Fans in the arena chanted “AEW,” and “restart the match,” to show their displeasure. It was an uncomfortable thing to watch. I can only imagine how the performers and commentators felt in the arena.
