India is progressing in many ways but, still backward when it comes to mental health, especially when it is about a women's mental health. Women plays a role of daughter, wife, mother and so no... and if it is a working women, she has to work double in home and office. In this all women does not get time to spend on herself, on her health and most importantly on mental health.
In India there is a taboo about mental health. The society in India which claims to be progressive on the other hand, are worried about what people might say when someone in family, especially a women have mental illness. When it comes to women's mental health it's not just about her health, it's about "If anyone finds out about it, who is gonna marry her?" So called reputation of a family gets affected when it comes to mental health. It's never about only and only that person when it comes to mental health, it's a stigma that follows the mental health that affects families reputation.
Now a days, younger girls are getting mental health issues like depression, anxiety.. which they can not speak up about. At least if they can talk with there own parents that will make a huge difference. Mental health is not so different than your physical health rather mental health is more important.
What everyone can do is just communicate. Speak about mental health, when and where possible. More and more people talk about it, stigma associated with it will decrease. Don't make a women's mental health about a prestige issue or don't avoid helping your loved one by thinking about society. Make a difference today.
