Why Reading With Your Child Is Important?

Most of the child's learning is doen through reading books. The better a child can read, the easier it is for them to learn at school.

Your role in your child's life

You, being as a parent can make huge and prominent difference in your child's life. Parents are the most important educators in a child's life - even more important than their teachers - and it's never too late to start reading together. Why do you think even doctors suggests you to talk to your child while its still in the womb, cause babies learn to recognise their parent's voices even before they're born. Reading to your baby from birth, even for just a few mintues a day, gives them the comfort of hearing your voice and increases their exposure to laguage.

Building understanding in your child

Learning to read is about listening and understanding as well as working out what's what's printed on the page. While reading a story to your child you put forward a wide range of vocabulary and words infront of them. This helps them in understanding the sentences when they try to read those stories themselves. Even if your child doesn't understand each and every word, they'll get to hear new sounds, words and phrase which they can try out copying themselves.

Pointing your child in the right direction

  • Read to them out loud
  • Start reading yourself
  • Surround them with books

But the most important thing is to give time to your child. Sit with them, read, talk, play, spend time time with them. Then only you'll be understanding their interests, likes and dislikes. Take out few mintues a day to read with them so that they can adapt the habit of reading. The soon they adapt that habit the better chances are for them to excel in any subject studied at school.
