Why Consumers Don't Like Linux?

Hello, everyone. Today we'll discuss why consumers don't like the Linux operating system.

Fifteen years before Steve Ballmer (Microsoft) said, "Linux is cancer that attaches itself in an intellectual property sense to everything it touches." That was the difference between the two sides of the same industry at that time. But, not now. In 2016 steve Ballmer said I might have called Linux cancer, but now I love it. Moreover, in recent years, Microsoft has become more friendly to Linux.

In a recent interview, Linux Torvalds said, "The whole anti-Microsoft thing was sometimes funny as a joke, but not really. Today, they're much friendlier. I talk to Microsoft engineers at various conferences, and I feel like, yes, they have changed, and the engineers are happy. And they're like pleased working on Linux. So I completely dismissed all the anti-Microsoft stuff." So we can say things have improved a lot. Now let's discuss this important topic in detail.

Quick History

Microsoft introduced Windows OS in 1985 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Whereas, Linux was introduced in 1991, 6 Years after Windows. Windows had an early entry into the emerging market. And signing a Non-Exclusive deal with IBM made a significant push to the company.

Whereas Linux in those days was way more buggy as well as complicated to use for consumers and developers (Unlike Now). Because of which Windows OS UI become an Industry Standard. And it went on capturing market share up 92% (2017)

Let's Debate!

Linux is still the most used server OS and the most secure also. But, there lies an important question: Why Consumers do Not use Linux?

Linux is an open-source operating system. This means consumers can use it for free. So, licensing costs reduce with a wide diversity of applications on embedded systems. Customization is also a lot better ln Linux. As it is open-source, anyone can edit or update its components in any manner, unlike Windows. Moreover, you can run it with just 8 MB RAM. Security and privacy are the core of Linux.

Legacy is the term I will start with Windows. Friends, I have been using Windows since childhood. Because of which it leads to more friendliness with that UI. Moreover, Windows is the market leader in the market in the last three decades. There are many Software & Application Developers for Windows Platform than any other platform. Especially with Microsoft's Latest Windows 10, there's a massive boom for developers. There's no Competitor in terms of PC Gaming. Windows still have a stronghold on the Gaming market.

One more plus point is "Enterprise Solution". Yes, Linux has all the options, too but, if you want to have a reliable, flexible, robust IT department, Windows comes with amazing software for that purpose.

Folks, now if you compare both the aspects, definitely Windows has a head over Linux from the consumer's perspective. I prefer Windows 10 overall. Windows 10 is the best yet. It has the power of Windows and Linux in it.
