Today many Unani pharmaceutical manufacturing units are active in the government and private sector in the country.

The Pharmacopoeia Laboratory for Indian Medicine (PLIM), under the Pharmacopoeia Commission of India, the traditional medicines for which trials have been working as Apalet Laboratory since 1970, include Unani medicines. A number of steps have also been taken in the direction of propagation of Unani Medicine through Information Education Communication (IEC) activities and international cooperation. These include health seminars, workshops, and conferences in India and abroad along with health exhibitions and camps.

Efforts are also being made to popularize the Unani system of medicine abroad and due to this, Unani Medicine Chair has also been established at the University of Western Cape, South Africa. The Unani system of medicine, with its accredited physicians, hospitals, and educational and research institutes, is today an integral part of the national system of health care delivery. There is a need to make this system accessible to the grassroots level so that people in rural areas can also take advantage of this comprehensive and inclusive medical system.
