What is the role of Value Education in our lives?

Educating the brain with educating our inner soul is no education at all. The word Value means Respect, Acceptance, Consideration, affection, openness, empathy, love towards human beings, justice for all, honesty, equality in all aspects, and equal opportunities, etc.

The term 'VALUE' was first used in Economics which means something which can be measured in terms of good sake and benefit.

But in ordinary parlance, the term value means shared beliefs, tolerance power, patience, and respect towards each other which leads to our actions and behavior.

 

 

Glimpses of 'Values' in PURUSHARTHA'S

In fact, the term value can be traced long back in the history of human life, the PURUSHARTHA'S ( Artha, Kama, Dharma, Moksha) are the traditional values human beings should look at.

 

 

What is Education?

On the other hand, According to https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/educated the word 'EDUCATION' has been derived from the LATIN word "Educare" which means 'to nourish'. In India Education means Shiksha and VIdya which means to educate and instruct people on the real meaning of life. 

 

                                            

Role of Value Education in the life of a Human Being

The concept of value education plays a significant role in the life of a human being. The meaning of value education is to nourish, instruct, educate the beliefs, rituals, customs and to show the right and true path to the people where they can contribute to the betterment of the society. 

This is the only process by which we can pass respect and honour to each other, people start to learn moral, social and spiritual values.

 

 

Place of Value Education in Indian Culture & Higher studies

Value-Based Education has been placed in great importance in the Indian culture. Self- Realisation, indoctrination is the highest goal of our life.

In India, the modern education system has been emphasizing inculcating the concept of value education into the main curriculum of both School and Higher education.

Various Committees and Commissions have been constituted to make it possible, to impart value-based education so that humanity may sustain.

1. According to https://www.yourarticlelibrary.com/education/kothari-education-commission-1964-66/76816, the reports of the (Indian Education Commission which is popularly knowns as the Kothari Commission constituted on 14th July 1964 and survived till 29th June,1966).

They proposed that there must be free time in the time table to make students aware of moral and human values. 

2. According to https://www.yourarticlelibrary.com/education/values-education/an-overview-on-value-education-initiatives-in-india/87009, The National Policy of Education (NPE-1986) also felt to readjust the existing curriculum and recommended the extensive meaning of moral and value-based education.

3. According to nf2005-english.pdf (ncert.nic.in), The national curriculum framework 1975,1988,200 and now 4th framework 2005 has played a vital role in changing our lives. This commission has also suggested integrating value-based education into the curriculum at school or the level of higher studies.

It has made it practically possible to connect with outside life.

4. The NCERT acronym for National Council of Research and Training) established in the year 1961 with its headquarter in New Delhi has also carried out the framework for value education in schools.

 

 

CONCLUSION: 

Education starts with the birth of an individual and it goes on till the last breath, it is clear that education has been playing as media advocacy or a tool to protect and promote human rights and their values. 

The above committees have made it clear that every subject in the curriculum is connected with our daily life activities which have been serving as a source of good knowledge for value education. The number of crimes including juvenile crimes, addictions, suicides, rapes has been reported every second day.

In this context, value-based education gives useful insights into the reality of our life and helps to develop a good and responsible citizen. It also helps to develop an ability to judge and to form a good relationship with each other. 

At last, VALUE-BASED EDUCATION always help in cultivating the SOCIAL, MORAL AND SPIRITUAL VALUES among people which is really the need of the hour.
