Symptoms and causes of alcohol.

ALCOHOLISM, NOW KNOWN ALCOHOL USE DISORDER, IS A CONDITION IN WHICH APERSON HAS DESIRE OR A PHYSICAL NEED TO CONSUME ALCOHOL, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THEIR LIFE.

The national institute on alcohol abuse and alcoholism{NIAAA] describes alcohol use disorder as "problem drinking that becomes severe". A person with this condition does not know when or how to stop drinking. they spend a lot of time thinking about alcohol, and they cannot control how much they consume,even if it is causing serious problems at home, work, and financially. alcohol abuse can used to take about excessive or inappropriate consumption of alcohoL.

SYMPTOMS A person who drinks excessive amount of alcohol will often not be the first person to realise that this is so. some sign or symptoms of AUD includes:- 1. drinking alone or in secret. 2. not being able to limit how much alcohol is consumed. 3. blacking out and not being able to rember chunks of time. 4. losing intrest in hobbies that were previousiy enjoyed. 5. feeling an urge to drink. 6. feeling irritable when drinking time approach, especially if alcohol is not, or may not be, available. 7. storing alcohol in unlikely places. 8. needing more alcohol to feel its effect. 9. gulping drinks doen in order to feel good. 10. experiencing nausea, sweating or shaking when not drinking. some people experience some of these signs and symptoms but are not dependent on alcohol.

CAUSES Alcohol dependence can take from a few years to several decades to develop. for some people who are praticularly vulnerable, it can happen within months. over time, regular alcohol comsumption can disrupt the balance of:- 1. gamma-aminobutyric acid {GABA} in the brain. 2. glutamate. GABA controls impulsiveness and glutamate stimulates the nervous system.

TESTS OF ALCOHOLISM blood test can only reveal very recent alcohol consumption. they cannot tell wheather a person has being drinking heavily for a long time. if a blood test reveals that the red blood cell have increasing in size, it could be an indication of long-team alcohol abuse. many peoples who consume unhealthy amount of alcohol deny that alcohol poses a problem for them. they may tend to minimize the extnt of their drinking. talking to family members may help the doctors understand the situation, but they will need permission to do this.

TREATMENT the first step towards recovery is to acknowledge that there is an alcohol dependency problem. the next step is to get help this is available from a range of support group and professional services.
