The story is a segmented picture of human life, which has no boundary line and in which there is no inevitability of any one side.

Explaining the difference between the novel and the story, Premchand states that "The story is a composition in which the author's objective is to show one part of life or one of his emotions. He must show his character, his style, his storytelling all in one. The sentiment has to be confirmed." 

In the novel, it is practiced to show the full form of human life. The story does not include all the juices like a novel. Munshi Premchand and Jaishankar Prasad, Jainendra, Agnayya, Yashpal, etc., are popular among the storytellers.

1. Eventful Story

The story progresses by stringing together a series of events in the event-oriented stories, or the story is based on some divine event or coincidence. Adarsh ​​stories, espionage, and tales are similar.

2. Character Headline

Due to variation in character-oriented stories, characterization is given due attention. Also, the subtle characteristics of psychological backgrounds are inaugurated. In his time, Premchand was the best writer of social-level stories and Prasad's historical-oriented character-oriented stories.

3. Atmosphere Story

In these types of stories, the atmosphere is depicted specifically, and through that, the expression of the era is expressed. It has an important place in historical stories.

4. Emotional story

These stories are based on an emotion or idea based on the corresponding symbolic characters and environment.

5. Great

These stories are characterized by being pregnant with fantastic elements. They can be magic, epic, futuristic, etc.

They are stories of unusual events that escape reality but always have a logical explanation, and despite the inclusion of superb data, they usually do not rule out rationality.

This type of story has characters who are considered normal throughout history as witches, dragons, fairies. 

Use impermeable expressions to determine time and place. The best phrase to start a great story is, "Once upon a time."

Within the fantastic stories, we can also distinguish:

Fairy Tale: They have characters like fairies, goblins, gnomes ... and they are mainly directed towards the children's audience

Science fiction stories deal with scientific or pseudo-scientific topics, but always from a brilliant point of view. They focus on the future, space travel, artificial life, etc. They have different types of characters, such as extraterrestrials, mutants, and robots.

 

Development of Story

To know the story's development, one has to know the mythological stories, Panchatantra stories like the thirsty crow and Hitopadesh. Apart from this, enlightening entertaining stories are also found. 

This tradition of Sanskrit fiction was also developing in Prakrit and Apabhramsa. Like other prose genres, the story is also a product of the modern era. Some critics regard the beginning of the story with Sadal Mishra's "Nasiketopakhyakan" and Inshaalla Khan's "Rani Ketki's Story." Most scholars have considered Kishori Lal Goswami's "Indumati," published in 1900 AD, to be the first Hindi story. The story's development can be divided into three parts by considering the Utk story as the basis. Early period 1900 to 1910 Development period 1911 to 1946 Utkarsh 1947 till now.
