Everybody experiences average hair loss daily. People suffer from certain conditions that imply a much more significant hair loss. Although this problem is more common in men –and thus, it is socially accepted-, hair loss in women is more frequent than you think.  There are possible causes, but in any case, there are some treatments available that can provide a solution.

Why am I losing my hair?

You need to identify what is causing this medical condition to find the best possible treatment available. Going to a doctor is always good advice, but you can take note of your symptoms to help the professional identify the reason for the hair loss. The chances are that if both your father and your mother suffered hair loss, you might have inherited from them. This is called androgenetic alopecia.

The hair loss is experienced gradually, and you may observe the first signs while still in your twenties. It is related to stressful events, major surgery, or even pregnancy. Other causes include side effects from medication, anemia, functional ovarian hyperandrogenism, hypothyroidism, lupus, or even excessive styling: in this last case, you will notice the hairs are broke, and the bulb is missing.

Possible treatments

Some women don't acknowledge hair loss until it is easily noticeable and affects their look. Still, hair loss is not only a matter of esthetics but an indicator of a possible health problem. Therefore, you should make an appointment with a dermatologist. You should never take medication before seeing a doctor.

In the interim, there are some things you may start doing, such as eating healthy: high protein foods, low carbs, walnuts, soy, and canola oil) will help you slow down the loss. Also, be gentle with your hair: avoid washing it too often, using the hairdryer, or brushing it hard.
