Traditional music of punjab

Punjabi folk music is highly rhythmic and very diverse. Punjabi folk is different from modern music of now times. The vocals are the another integral part of Punjabi music or punjabi boli because of different instruments.

The instruments are dhol ; tumbi ; sarang ; algoza and ektara . A glimpse into the lives and the culture of the people of punjab can be gained through the folks idioms of punjab. There is a great repetoiry of music and songs ; birth celebration . Daily life and include death. Songs of love and seperatios of  dance and rejoicement : fullfillment and disappointment .

Punjab is divided into 3 regions which are known as malwa ; doaba and majha . Today malwa is representing as a true spirit of punjabi folk triditional music.

The music in punjab changed through seasons . The lohri is is a occasion of punjab which is celebrating in winter times but in triditional times birth ; festivals and son anniversaries are celebrating in front of sacred fire especially in villages.

The songs have many variations like sundar mundriye which is sung on the beat of clapping .the children were singing around the village for collecting sweets from the people.

There is all festivals are incomplete without these folks or lok geets. There is different varieties of songs which refers to the love between brother and sister ; husband and wife and parents and their upbringings .

The music is the intregal part of the particular religion of the punjab which is sikhism. In punjab ; the music is deeply attached with sikhism. In fact ; a glossary of rages and music are given at the end of  the religious and holy book of sikhism named shri guru granth sahib ji . This tridition started by a men named mardana who accompanied the first guru of sikhism (shri guru nanak Dev ji ) . He sang the bani of guru nanak Dev ji with "ektara" and  "rhubarb".

Since the transmission of  folk tridition is through the triditional teacher and student tridition . the music roots of punjab is related with a pure and respectful bond.
