Top 5 reasons education is important

People say, ''Don't give money to a beggar, instead provide him a means of livelihood. This is very true because by giving money, you are only encouraging the beggar to do what he is doing. But by providing education or a job opportunity, you completely transform the beggar's life.

Yes, education is a necessity and not a luxury. There should be measures in place that make education available to even the downtrodden. So who is responsible for implementing such measures? The government? Society? The answer is, it has to start from our own homes. This requires a shift in the mentality of the people. You can't expect the government and the society to be responsible when you yourself are irresponsible or indifferent. Education should be made accessible irrespective of caste, creed, nationality, or gender.

Let us see why education shouldn't be denied at any cost. It is similar to a polio vaccine. If denied, the repercussions can be serious and irreversible.

  • Education empowers an individual: Without a doubt, education empowers a person. It enables a person to read, write, and speak in at least one language. It boasts one's self-esteem, increases self-confidence and helps a person better appreciate the world. When a person's self-esteem is high, it reflects in the way he behaves and acts. This happens as a cycle wherein high self-esteem leads to a positive attitude and the latter leads to high esteem.
  • Education opens up a new dimension: It is easy to distinguish between an educated person and a not-so educated person. This is possible by the behavior, mannerisms, and overall personality of an individual. Education opens up a new dimension within as well as outside an individual. A literate person is able to better understand the world and the people around him. He is polished when it comes to interacting with other people in society. He is able to share the same wavelength as other individuals too.
  • Education makes a person contended: Contentment is the state of being happy with what you have. When you are educated, there are a lot of advantages. One, you can communicate better with people. Two, you are able to interpret legal agreements better. Three, there is a transformation in your overall personality. Four, all this reflects in your behavior.
  • Education protects you from being deceived: An uneducated person is easy prey to fraudsters. For example, you have decided to purchase a new house. In the process, you are required to sign various documents. You need to be able to read agreements to understand their implications. Make sure to read all clauses with caution.
  • Education needs to be passed on: There is no point in keeping information or education to oneself. In fact, your knowledge expands when shared with those around you. This is how professors build their knowledge. Education needs to be passed on within one's family too. Every child, be it a boy or a girl, needs to undergo formal education.

To conclude, education is a powerful tool everyone should desire to possess. It is the joint responsibility of all citizens of a nation to stand for the education of all children.

Let us also strive to abolish child labor and embrace education.
