NATIONALIST MOVEMENT OF INDIA 

1.KHILAFAT MOVEMENT 

At the end of the first world war, turkey was defeated by Britishers and suffered an injustice at the hands of Britain. khalifa was dethroned from his post. he was the religious head of the Muslim community in India. Indians have opposed this act against turkey.

In 1919 under the leadership of Mohammad Shaukat Ali and Mohammad Ali, maulana Azad, the khilafat committee was formed. the objective of that movement was to opposed the injustice to the khalifa of turkey. the khilafat movement was given the full support of Gandhi Ji and congress.

 

2.NON-COOPERATION MOVEMENT 

 

With the advent of the first world war, the English asked for Indian cooperation on the battlefield. they promised to give self-government in return after the end of the war. Indian shoulders fought with the British army for England hoping to get self-government.

Gandhi was offered the title of "kaiser e hind" for his cooperation. but the English refuse to acknowledge the promise after the end of the war. As a result, Gandhi Ji decided to start the non-cooperation movement. 

 

3.SALT SATYAGRAH MOVEMENT 

 

GANDHIJI planned to begin the movement by breaking the salt law. the British government had hiked the tax on salt.it was difficult for the poor to purchase salt. Gandhi sent an 11 formula demand to the government and urge the government to reduce the tax on salt. when the government denied conceding the demands o, on 12th March 1930 Gandhi Ji left Sabarmati ashram at Ahmedabad with 78 other members for dandi.

There was a  village on the western sea coast of India. during his 24 days journey, the entire route was crowded with the followers of Gandhi Ji massive crowds welcomed Gandhi Ji . on April 1930 Gandhiji broke the salt law. Gandhi Ji defied the government by picking up a handful of salt which has been formed by the evaporation of seawater 

4.CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE MOVEMENT 

 

The defiance of the salt law was followed by the spread of the civil disobedience movement all over the country. news of salt satyagraha spread throughout the country and people stopped paying taxes. The breaking of the salt law became a symbol of people's define the government.

As the civil disobedience movement gained speed the government oppression became fierce. lathi charges and firing were witnessed at several places and around 100,000 people were jailed 

Many fell victim to the bullets of police. women actively participated in this movement for the first time.

5.QUIT INDIA MOVEMENT 

In April 1942, the Cripps mission failed. A state of frustration prevailed in India again. on 8th august 1942, the all-India congress committee. at a meeting in Bombay, passed a resolution declared that the immediate end of British rule in India was an urgent necessity for the sake of India and the success of the cause of freedom and democracy. for which the countries of the allied nations were fighting against fascist Germany, Italy, and Japan. 

Gandhi JI gave the famous slogan 'Do or Die' which echoed in every part of India. in the early hours of the morning, 9 august 1942 most of the leaders of congress were arrested. they were lodged in jails in different parts of the country.

Thousand of people were arrested. people in anger took to violent activities. the people attacked and damaged the government property, way lines and disrupted the posts and telegraphs at several places.

few places like Ballia and were freed from British rule but government oppression knew no bounds. bombs were hurled through the air crafts. they opened fires which resulted in the deaths of thousands of protestors. All the prominent leaders were in jail. those who were not arrested went underground. The quit India movement could not last long due to government oppression.
