The history of Bangarh Fort dates back to the 17th century built in Rajasthan. Bhangarh, famous for being the most haunted place in India, was actually a thriving city in ancient times. Built for his son, Man Singh I, in the 17th century by Madho Singh, one of the nine ratnas in the Emperor Akbar court, Bhangarh Fort was once a beautiful place. It is believed that more than 10,000 people lived in Bhangarh before it was left overnight. Whether you believe in curses and prophecies or not, here is a scary story behind the destruction of Bhangarh. According to history, there was a princess in Bangarh, named Ratnavati who was said to be a very beautiful woman. Influenced by her good looks, the necromancer in the region fell in love with her. To find her, she put a black magic spell on the oil that the princess was to use for body massage. But, before his dirty trick could work out, Princess Ratnavati found out his trick and threw oil that carried magic on a large rock nearby. Black magic worked its way and caused the stone to crush the tantric until it died. Before his last breath, however, he cursed the entire city of Bhangarh, plagued with grief and despair, in order to bring down his ruin like himself. Proving his final words, the following year the ruler of Bhangarh suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the enemy. His entire army was destroyed and all the people of Bangarh were brutally murdered.

 

2. Dow Hill, Kurseong, West Bengal

Victoria Boy’s High School and Dowhill Girl’s Boarding School in Kurseong, Darjeeling, are believed to be home to many ghosts in their footsteps which can be heard echoing in the corridors. There were dozens of dead bodies found in the bushes around the schools and many locals and visitors reported that they were being followed by a headless boy and then disappeared into the bush.

 

3. Dumas Beach, Gujarat

On the Arabian coast, the black sands of Dumas Beach in Gujarat are associated with a number of mysteries over the years. The beach used to be a Hindu cemetery and many believe that unstable winds call out to tourists strolling out at midnight to return to the beach. There have been reports that those who do not listen to the voice of the dead disappear into the water forever. This sea is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

 

4. Kuldhara Village, Rajasthan

The village of Kuldhara is close to Jaisalmer and originally inhabited by the Paliwal Brahmins. The lore speaks of the sudden disappearance of all the people of the Kuldhara area and 83 other nearby districts in 1825 in a thin air, leaving no trace of their whereabouts. The minister reportedly had an affair with a local girl and threatened to charge her exorbitant taxes unless she married him. To protect the girl's dignity, the king of Kuldhara and surrounding areas left his villages and cursed the land for being uninhabited forever.

 

5. Jatinga, Assam

This small village of 2500 people has one of the most confusing situations in the world, which is the constant suicide of birds. For centuries now, local and migratory birds have been declining in large numbers on a moonless night in September and only in October. This has puzzled scientists who find no valid reason for the birds to fall dead in the sky in such a way and it is very disturbing, to say the least.
