Top 10 Online school Studies Challenges for students during the pandemic

As the pandemic suddenly broke, online studies became the only option. Be it Schools or Parents or teachers; no one was ready for this situation; as the lockdown continued and the situation worsened, school authorities knew that they would have to start the session very soon, even if it meant online. Summer holidays ended, and the session started.

Since it was for the very first time that the teachers were teaching online, they also had to adapt to new ways of teaching. They had to learn to prepare short videos (on youtube and other platforms) for quick understanding and set objective test papers online. A new kind of organization and coordination was planned and followed. Online studies meant studying through a smartphone or laptop or computer. Teachers had to learn to teach through them as soon as they could.

1. Network Issues:

Zoom is the biggest medium of live online classes currently. Yet network issues from teachers or students remain the biggest challenge. With the unstable network, classes keep disconnecting and students are not able to attend complete lectures. Good broadband service was a must from both sides for a smooth lecture yet rainy days would impact even the best one.

2. Problems in Understanding:

Lack of proper Interaction with the faculty/ teachers is leading to poor understanding. That one to one interaction with the teacher which used to make a lot of difference to a few students has become very difficult now. Time limitation, network issues, lack of proper interaction all this is leading to a lack of clarity among students although teachers are doing their best.

3. Lack of Supervision:

In regular schooling, teachers understood performance, behavior, problems, strengths, and weaknesses of each child and was able to share the attributes of each child with their parents but now it is not possible for teachers.  Some students would not even pay attention in class due to a lack of supervision now.

4. Impact on Eyes and posture:

This is parents' biggest concern these days. From live classes to course videos to test papers to homework, everything is online. It's really not possible for students to take their eyes off the screen for the most part of the day which could become a big reason for poor eyesight or bad posture. Doctors advise that students should relax their eyes after each class for 10 min. and straighten their back for improving their posture.

5. Lack of Discipline:

One thing that is really not possible for teachers to maintain in the online classes and that is discipline. It was easy to manage discipline when the students studied in school but in the online classes, some students can make it difficult for other students to pay attention too. As the discipline is missing so is the seriousness among Students.

6. Missing Suitable Environment:

Even though everyone in the family might try the best but the environment at home is not completely ideal for a student all the time. This hampers the learning in some or the other way. Children miss the interaction with other students which used to give them the feeling of their own space.

7. Online Exams:

Exams are being taken timely by all the schools as planned through different platforms like campus Pro etc but the seriousness among the students is not like it was during the regular school. Currently, it is becoming very difficult for the teachers to assess the actual performance of the students.

8. Lack of Competitive Environment:

During regular schooling, the competitive environment would push the students to work harder and attain better results. Some students used to get the motivation to perform their best with the help of their teachers. Limited one to one interaction is not allowing students to reach their teachers for the personal counselling and attention.

9. Diversion from Studies:

With the online studies comes its biggest drawback that is a diversion from studies. Students are all the time online and during this time they have access to the internet so distraction is inevitable. When even adults like us find it so difficult to stay offline for long then children cannot be completely blamed for it. Diversion from studies is impacting students seriousness and performance.

10. Lack of physical Activity:

School is the best place where any student gets the right space and training to play and to do any physical activity. Sports/ Yoga/ PT periods used to give the students the required physical activity daily.

Despite of all these drawbacks, students and parents feel blessed that their whole year is not wasted and their learning has not stopped. In fact online studies has appeared as the next best alternative for any unprecedented situation in future.
