Thoughts of a Student in India in 2019

Is there really a problem with the Education system of India?

The Indian education system is more than a 100 years old and has remained mostly unchanged for the past century. The curriculum stays the same for at least 5 years before changing and that too is usually a minor change in some chapters. Delhi has been a leader in improving its education system recently, taking inspiration from the education system in Finland. It is considered to have one of the best education systems in the entire world and is funded by the government itself. So, I would say India could do a lot better in terms of improving upon its educational backbone. Now that we have established that there is a problem we can discuss the impact of the problem and how bad is it.

Employability of Indian Youth in 2019

UNEMPLOYABLE is the word that companies are using to describe the majority of Indian youth. Companies that come to Computer Engineering colleges disclose in a survey that 90% of the graduates couldn’t even write 5 lines of code properly. It’s not just Computer Engineering or some other one occupation that suffers with this problem, it’s the whole system. I wanna give you an example of my college which is specifically for Bachelor’s in Hotel Management, out of 60 final year students only 20 people have gotten jobs even after ranking the 2nd best Privately funded Hotel Management Institute in India according to its placements. Half of the youth in India doesn’t care about its future. The reason behind it I think is the incapability of our education system to indulge the students. Our education is designed to make factory workers that were needed in the beginning of the 20th Century, and that is what I think it’s suitable for not making free thinking individuals that are needed in today’s fast growing and ever changing world. It makes it difficult for people to find interest in studying and honestly confuses the hell out of students after 12th standard, no one has an idea what to do and people end up doing things they don’t even care about and that is just not an economical or logical thing to do.

Problems faced and Possible Solutions

The first and basic problem that arises with the problem of unemployability is unemployment, which in turn gives rise to much worse and complicated problems. For ex; unemployability can cause the buying power of the public to shrink to such level that it starts creating problems for specific sector and then might even lead to an economic recession. This is one of the worst possible outcome if this problem is not dealt with care and hurry. An economic slowdown is visible already and I think it might just be the next global recession coming up in the early 2020s.

The only solution to this problem is that the government realizes thati t’s time to change the education system for the better or change the government instead. I understand that the government doesn’t have a radical plan to reform to the entire education system but is “once more ready to ban all Rs. 2000 and Rs. 500 notes from midnight forward.”-Satire. Don’t take it literally and die of heart attack.
