Last month, I spent three days in India in preparation for the production of “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari” as a major motion picture. As I met various people in that great land of so many different cultures, I was provided with an opportunity to regain perspective. I was reminded that, no matter where I go in the world, human beings still struggle with the same challenges. No matter who I meet, we all have the same longings.
No matter who I connect with, I’ve come to understand that we are all part of one great family with invisible ties. During the summer months, I invite you to take time out for yourself to restore perspective. It may be valuable for you to find the time to list your blessings and write gratitude letters to people who have made your life what it currently is.
Perhaps, pick up the phone and have a series of conversations with individuals who have enriched your life and helped you when you most needed help. You may also reflect on how fortunate you are in a world where many people are struggling to simply survive. As you take an inventory of your life, think about the books that have shaped your thinking and the movies that have inspired you. Think about the people that you have worked with that have made your life better as well as the experiences that have defined you. It is so easy to fall into the trap of being so busy living your life that you never take the time to work on your life.
During these quieter months, it might be valuable to reflect on what it is you want to create over the coming years and how you will breathe life into your dreams. Reflect on what’s working in your life and what’s not working in your life. Ponder the things that are excellent about your life and the things that do not align with your commitment to being truly world-class in all that you do. And remember, the world will be less of a place if you do not play your biggest game as a human being.
