The myth that relates video games to violence is dismantled

The APA (American Psychological Association) set in 2015 the objective of finding possible links and relationships between video games and youth violence in society, which every year registers new cases of bullying, vandalism and other violent acts among the smallest.

However, the latest report presented concludes with a clear statement: there is no such relationship, or at least there is no conclusive scientific evidence to demonstrate the link between the world of video games and violence.

Some recognized figures, such as the President of the United States Donald Trump, have constantly hammered that video games were to blame for the increase in violent acts, but nothing could be further from reality.

The president of the APA, Sandra L. Shullman, has given her opinion on these accusations sent to videogames from some sectors, such as parents' associations or public organisms.

'' Violence is a complex social problem that probably stems from many factors that deserve the attention of researchers, policymakers, and the public. Attributing violence to video games is not scientifically sound and diverts attention from other factors, such as the history of violence, which we know from research is an important predictor of future violence.

Since video games have achieved higher status within the entertainment society, many have ventured on the quest to censor, condemn, and blame them for a problem that is much broader than they think. Violence is a social scourge that is due to many other areas of life before video games.

Titles like Grand Theft Auto, Fortnite or Call of Duty have been consistently accused of fomenting violence among children and youth, given their vast community of underage players, but it's more of a cheap justification from parents and guardians, which are not focused on tackling the problem from its root.

What's more, many video games have been praised for their benefits and benefits that they give users. Nintendo games like Mario or Zelda help to create greater imagination in people, franchises like FIFA, Madden or NBA 2K stimulate the growth of sports, and classic titles like Tetris help calm and stabilize the emotions of the players.

Honestly, from Hobby Consolas, we support the eradication of violence, but we refuse to relate an art as broad and laborious as video games with a social scourge such as violence, which of course is due to much deeper problems than to playing a game console or PC.
