Snake Iceland: Golden Lancehead Snakes are Very Dangerous

Queimada Grande Iceland is also called as snake Iceland located approximately 33 kilometers off the coast of the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil; the island is approximately 110 acres nearly 430,000 square meters in area. This snake Iceland was very dangerous because the huge numbers of snakes are living in this Iceland, It is said that the island was once connected to the mainland, but due to rising sea levels, the island was disconnected from the mainland, allowing a number of species of snakes to evolve.

The area was annexed by Brazil about 11 thousand years ago. It was a high mountain then. Gradually the sea level became an island and separated from Brazil. A lighthouse was erected here in 1909 for shipping. A family was sent here for its maintenance. The family, who lived for nearly ten years, eventually succumbed to the snakes. In 1920, the island's snakes invaded their homes and killed everyone. The Brazilian authorities, who saw the lighthouse lights steady, were shocked to see their corpses on the island. After that, the lighthouse was closed for some years. Instead of repeating such tragic events, an automatic lighting system was installed. Officials say all the deadliest people on the island are victims of a Golden Lancehead pit viper bite.
