Rafael Nadal No.1 As Big Three Occupy Top Ranking Spots

Tennis royalty occupy the top three places in the first ATP ranking of the new season with Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, once again leading the way in the men's game.

World number four Dominic thiem one of a new generation of players looking to topple the big three, with the Austrian saying on Thursday that expected a new player to emerge Grand Slam winner in 2020.

"I think we challenged them already a lot. We also beat them especially on Masters 1000 stages and the ATP finals, "said Thiem, who was runner up to Tsitsipas at the ATP Finals in London in November.

The big three have shared out the last 12 Grand Slams among themselves, but Thiem predicts the run will end this year.

"I think last stage we have to conquer is the Grand Slam stage and I really think we will see a new Grand Slam Champion."

Nadal and Djokovic secured two Grand Slams each last year, with the Spaniard secure end of year top spot in the ATP ranking at November's ATP finals when Djokovic failed to reach the semi finals.

The pair got off to winning starts with the straight sets wins at the ATP Cup Saturday as the Australian Open homes into view.

The ATP rankings is the ATP's historical objective merit based methods used for determining entry and seeding in all tournaments both single and double, except as modified for the ATP Nitto finals.

The top Seven players in the ATP race to be London on Monday, 9 November 2020 qualify for the Nitto ATP finals. If there is one current year Grand Slam champion positioned between eighth and 20th in the race, he qualifies eighth place. If there are two current year Grand Slam champion positioned between eighth and 20th, the highest ranked of those players becomes the eighth and final qualifier; the lower Grand Slam champion will serve as the alternate. If there are no current year Grand Slam champion positioned between eighth and 20th, then the player in eighth place in the race will claim the eighth and final berth.
