Test For Eyesight :

It is compulsory to have 6/6 Eyesight and no color blindness to join Merchant Navy, and if a candidate does not have 6/6 Eyesight, he has to go for laser operation and pass his eyesight test. For color blindness, there is an Ishihara test that needs to be cleared individually.

In some cases, it is acceptable that you can do your laser operation during your course, but it is only for some classes like BSc and B.Tech, where course duration is longer and can be corrected later. But before joining a ship, you have to get your eyesight fixed.

X-ray Examination

There will be an X-Ray scanning of candidates where they check your lungs and other parts of the body and check that they are normal and fit. In addition to this, they will also check your chest expansion, which should be a minimum of 5cm.

Knot Knee And Flat Feet Test

If you have any of them, there is no chance that you can join the merchant navy as it's not at all allowed to join the merchant navy with flat fleet and knot knees.

Height and Weight Test 

For joining the merchant navy, you should have a height minimum of 150cm and a weight of a minimum of 52 kg to be eligible for a merchant navy course.

BMI Test

You also need to qualify a BMI test which is body mass index, and it shows that your body is fit according to your height and weight and it should range between 18.5 to 24.9 if your BMI is less than the above value it will not be safe for you to join the ship.

Blood Test

In this test, a sample of your blood will be taken and they will check your hemoglobin and diabetes, the results of the same should come in the range specified.

Additional Checks

They will also see and check your previous diseases or any injury you had in the past you need to submit the prescription of any operation or surgery or treatment to the concerned doctor. And hiding your past medical records will only lead to delaying in passing medicals and will affect your shipping career.

Oral Test

In this test basically, your teeth and tooth decay are checked and it only takes in some places. They check the size of teeth and the number of teeth that need to be accurate.

Ear Test

In this test they make you hear tunes of various frequencies and they check whether you can hear properly.
