Leadership in Action

Writing about self seems easy but it is the most difficult. It tells you how much you know yourself (one’s observation). I was born in Pathankot, Punjab. My father is a businessman and mother is a homemaker. My elder sister is currently working for Accenture and my younger brother is in 2nd year. I had done my schooling from Montessori Cambridge School followed by S.M.D.R.S.D. college of education. My grandfather owned a business of supplying timber wood also we he owned a factory where wood products were manufactured. Many times in my childhood I observed him giving orders to the workers in the factory. He was very strict when it came to his business and always wanted the best for business.  Now I can relate his behavior to the autocratic style of leadership. As a businessman, it was his duty to always be on time and made his workers work no matter what the circumstances. I learned from my grandpa that in every situation you should be able to get things done because being inefficient may cause a loss for everyone. It is good to obey your elders but bad to follow their bad habits. He was a role model for my father, uncle as well as me. He taught us how important money is and how to keep your business at the best. He was a visionary and always had a thought for the future generations of his family.

There are many incidences where I saw him being rude to family members and taking decisions independently. Here again, I will say a good leader is one who decides that benefits all. I always saw him giving idealized influence. He always tried to lead us by example with an objective that it will help in the long run.

My father used to work side by side with my grandfather and managed the whole operations of the business. I observed him being very polite with the workers and helped them as well as motivated them to work in the factory. He was very caring when it came to the business and always wanted the best for his employees as well as the business.  Now I can relate his behavior to a transformational style of leadership. As a businessman, it was his duty to always be on time and motivate his workers to work to the fullest of their ability no matter what the circumstances. I learned from my father that in every situation you should be able to get things done and also cared about what is best for their employees because employees are the most important part of any business. It is good to see your elders in such an inspiring stature and learn the importance of business from them. He was a role model for me.

In XIME one of my friends knows about almost everyone in detail. He is also considered as an individual consideration style of leader.

In college, I started connecting with people. I get to know about the reselling business of clothing products from one of my cousins, and that thing inspired me and I initiated it. It is a kind of trading business and I found the gap between manufacture and the customer as all the local manufacture were selling their products in the local market. From this, I initiated an online platform to the manufacturer that they can sell their products in the pan India market. I taking responsibility and distributing work among people was difficult but I managed by winning their confidence.

With this, I was preparing myself for the future. I assured that every partner in my group should earn the maximum.

In the business, I always tried to take responsibility for all. I was managing both the customer as well as the suppliers. My work was to promote the online platform, take orders from the customers, build a relationship with both customers as well as the suppliers, cost control of delivery charges and stratify the customer by delivering what promised. I put less attentive people into most engaging activities for a reason so that they can see a sense of authority and responsibility and built their confidence.

I learned from my father that whatever the circumstances maybe you have to always help others to achieve a common goal. He taught me teamwork and communication among one another so that to maintain a proper rapport among people. My grandfather taught me the essence of work and how to get things done and brought in me a feeling of self-motivation in life.

Then after that, I cleared the CMAT exam and traveled from north to south in XIME for higher studies.

Here it was a different experience. It was the first time I came out of my comfort zone. Adjusting in South-India was a problem for me as I got to know after coming here that beef is easily available in every restraint and me being a pure vegetarian found it to be really difficult to adjust. It was tough to adjust but when I found people of similar background’s also having the same problem, then I felt that I was not alone.

I met people from different states which was a great experience as I got to learn about various diverse cultures.

After coming to XIME I realized in different states people are recognized differently and you have to unlearn all the stereotype perception about them to work with them and learn with them.

Here also in every group, I tried to lead and give my best. Take best out of others as well as gave my best in every activity I was a part of. Helped in many social activities. Actively participated in x-seed events. It’s good to give society what you take from it.

This helped me polish all my skills and due to these, I was able to get placed in SBI Life Insurance as an Assistant Manager.

What motivates me is the best approach to serving others. it's wherever I learn to treat others and provides them better of what they require.

Here in teamwork, I found an issue in terms of distinction in opinions and difficulty in convincing folks to return at the same call. Then providing answers in a win-win setup become the solution.

As a student, I attempted my best to involve in studies and engineered sensible relations with my fellow mates. On behalf of me, a decent leader is one that will inspire others by his example. A person who sees a chance in everybody and may be able to build confidence in them.

A good leader sets a vision for the development and growth of all. Holistic development of mind and heart.
