Karni Mata Rat Temple in Rajasthan

Karni Mata Temple Also Known as Rat Temple, Karni Mata temple is considered as home to many as 25,000 sacred rats, which live and are protected here. This is the reason this temple is also known as the Rat Temple of India. It is located at Deshnoke in Rajasthan, which is just 30Kms away from Bikaner. It is believed that the Karni Mata was a sage lady, she was born in 1387 in the Charan caste of Hindus. There is historical evidence that this temple was built in the 15th century by a king named Gangasingha. Karni Mata's three children were born and passed away in Pruitt. her son was once playing Kapil Sarovar and died. Karni Mata begged Lord Yamudharmaraju to give the child's life. Out of all of the thousands of rats in the temple, there are a few white rats which are considered to be especially holy. They are believed to be the manifestations of Karni Mata herself and her four sons. Sighting them is a special blessing and visitors put in extensive efforts to bring them forth, offering Prasad and a sweet holy food.
