Indian premier League

Indian premier League is a professional t20 league in India contests during march to April every year by eight teams representing eight different cities in India since 2008. The Indian premier League is fifth among the domestic professional leagues in world by average attendance of 32,800 audience.

          Currently the champion team is Mumbai Indians for 4th title 

  The eight teams are Mumbai Indians, Chennai super kings, Delhi capitals, Sun Risers Hyderabad, Rajasthan royals, Royal challengers Bangalore, Kolkata night riders and Kings ix Panjab.

        FOUNDATION

       On 13 September 2007, BCCI announced the launch of a franchise based T20 cricket competition called Indian premier League Whose first session was slated to start in April 2008  in a high profile ceremony in new Delhi BCCI vice president Lalit Modi said to be the mastermind behind the idea of IPL spelled out the details of tournaments including its format the price money franchise revenue system and squad composition rules. It was also called revealed that the IPL would qualify for that year's champion league T20 Modi also clarified that they had been working on the idea for two years and that IPL was not started as ' knee- jerk reaction to the ICL (15) the league's format was similar to that of the premier League of the England and the NBA in the United States. 

 In order to decide the owner for the new league an auction was held on 24 January 2008 with the total base prices of the franchise costing around 400 million dollars . At the end of the auction the winning bidders were announced as well as the cities the team would be based in Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mohali and Mumbai..
