Impact of surface on Athletes

In sports different kinds of surfaces are used such as wooden, cemented, artificial turf, grassy, rubber, synthetic, sponge, cinder etc., in different sports and games. These types of surfaces are used in tracks, runways in jumping and throwing sports, tennis court etc. 

The surface on which athletes run, plays an important role in determining how well they perform and how likely they are get injured. It is important that running or playing on such surfaces acts as a collisions between your body and the surface of the ground. These surfaces may also cause injury to the sports person but such surfaces are helpful in enhancing sports performance of the athlete. 

Impact of Environment on Athletes

Generally, environment has a number of impacts on the sports events and athletes too. As a matter of fact, environment consists of natural factors (prevailing weather conditions, altitudes) and man made factors (pollution, traffic). The following environmental conditions have different impacts on athletes are :-

  1. High temperature: It is the most common and adverse environmental factor. High temperature can cause illness like heat stroke and heat cramps. It can also thinner the air we cause more resistance. There are significant percentage of deaths observe due to high temperature.
  2. Extreme cold climate: Extreme cold climate can cause skin- related problems such as frostbite and frostnip and even hypothermia. The main problem caused can cause is hydration problems.
  3. High altitude: At high altitudes, the oxygen level in our body decreases. Our body is forced to produce less number of RBC's (red blood cells) which binds oxygen to itself. The athlete can also experience sun burns and snow blindness too.
  4. High humidity: It is an adverse environmental condition as high humidity can reduce its performance.
  5. Air pollution: By performing outdoor events can expose athletes to air pollution which could have a negative impact on the performance and can even has an impact on their health.
