How to Protect yourself from Coronavirus

It is said, "Prevention is better than cure." The same thing applies to coronavirus. We are all aware of how this virus is causing havoc around the globe...But do you know exactly what you can do to protect yourself from this virus? Are you taking the necessary precautions against it?

Well, the first step to protect yourself and your near and dear ones from this disease  is Awareness

Awareness about the virus, its lifecycle, the identification methods, the symptoms, prevention measures, and so on.

Facts about the virus

1) The virus is not heat-resistant. That means it will be destroyed at a temperature of 30-35 degrees.

What you can do about it

  • Drink more hot water.
  • Stay out in the sun for an extended period.
  • Drinking hot water is not a cure but an effective way to protect yourself from it.
  • Avoid drinking ice-cold beverages altogether.

2) The size of the virus is quite large (about 400-500 nm in diameter).

What you can do about it

Wear any type of ordinary mask when you step out of your home. It should be able to filter the virus out.

3) When someone who has affected sneezes, the virus travels a distance of 10 feet in the air before it drops to the ground. If the virus falls on a metal surface, it will live for 10 hours. On fabric, it will remain active for 6 to 12 hours.

What you can do about it

  • If you touch any metal surface, do not forget to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Do not just depend on sanitizers.
  • As far as your clothes are concerned, washing them with detergent should kill the virus. For dresses that cannot be washed, put them out under the sun for about 4 hrs. This will kill the virus.

Identification and Symptoms

1) If you catch a cold or have a fever, how will you know whether it is coronavirus infecting you or just a common cold? Well, according to doctors, the easiest way to identify is this - "If you have a runny nose and sputum, then you are most probably not suffering from coronavirus."Because according to doctors, coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough without a runny nose.

2) Since the virus first infects the throat, so the throat will have the dry, sore throat feeling, which will last for 3 to 4 days.

3) In the next stage, the virus will blend into the nasal fluid and drip into the trachea and enter the lungs. This will result in pneumonia, and the entire process will take about 5 to 6 days.

4) The symptoms in the next phase include high fever and difficulty in breathing. The nasal congestion is not like the regular kind. (It is essential to seek immediate medical attention if you feel like this).

Prevention

Let us summarize the precautions you should take:

1) Wash your hands frequently- This is because the most common way of getting infected is by touching things in public.

2) Besides that, gargle your throat frequently to eliminate or minimize the germs while they are still in your throat (before they move to your lungs).

3) Drink plenty of warm water.
