Yeah! The new year is on its way to rock on. Have you set your new year's resolution?
I know ... I know... Many of us have not yet thought about it because they feel that new year's eve or the first day of the new year will be the correct day for setting resolutions.
First of all, let me tell you .... the resolutions that you will set will be carried out for a year. That's a different thing that we fail to do. The success rate of the new year resolution is quite low.
Let me clarify for you using numbers. (data source: wiki)
35% of people set unrealistic goals, 33% didn't keep track of them, 23% forget to set them. And now comes the 9 % of people out of 100 who strive towards completing their goals.
This is because we give ourselves just a day to make a list of things that can make changes in your life.
We just make a list of things that sound well. just like we say that "I will start reading books," even if we don't like it. more than sounding good.... our goals should be realistic and S.M.A.R.T
Yes, smart!! Do you know what S.M.A.R.T's goal is ..??
We should make your resolution considering all the above characteristics.
let me give you an example: As I said, I'll read a book. wherein I feel bored but if I had planned it smartly, I would have said that " I will listen to one audiobook daily " That would be more effective than the first one. Therefore as said, our resolutions should be planned smartly, and they should be effective and realistic.
So now, I will showcase 3 easy steps that can help you to set your 2021 resolution more effectively.
I guarantee you that this will surely make changes in your life.
3 STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED
1) Plot your self graph
2) Set S.M.A.R.T goals
3) Write down your resolution
1)PLOT YOUR SELF GRAPH
Yes! That's the best way to know yourself in depth. This activity will give you a clear image of where to improve and where to not…
And note one thing from my side that this will balance your life in every area. You must be wondering which are these areas this guy is talking about... so don't worry, I'll tell you.
There are 7 areas of our life, or you can also call it as 7 pillars of life that would be much better.
The pillars are
1) physical body
2) work & missions
6) celebration & Contribution
7) emotion and meaning
So as listed, this are the areas in our life on which we have to work on.
Let's get started.
First of all, take a blank sheet and point a centre on it. You can refer to the given diagram after that, as shown in the diagram, make 7 rays pointing out in a different direction ( refer to the diagram)
Now on each point of the ray, write our 7 areas of life, then take a rounder(compass) and set it to 1cm and then make an arc on each ray.
And also number each graph ( note: the numbering should be between 1 to 10) now, most of my work is done, now it's up to you...
rate yourself in each area according to you, on a scale of 1 to 10 ...
make sure that you be sincere in it ... after all, it's going to benefit you. As you have done your work, now connect the rated arc as shown in the image.
You may notice that there is a kind of irregularly shaped form after connecting all your ratings.
That irregular shape justifies that your life is not balanced, so.. we have to work towards making that irregular shape into a complete circle.
That would be our first resolution in 2021 to make our life perfectly balanced in all areas. And don't worry, I'll be there to guide you throughout.
After this activity, we know in which area we have to work for improving ourselves. now it's just a matter of taking necessary steps like setting smart goals.
Set S.M.A.R.T goals
Setting S.M.A.R.T goals means you can clarify your ideas, focus your efforts, use your time and resources efficiently, and increase your chances of reaching towards what you want in life.
Your goal should be realistic, or you won't be able to focus your efforts or feel truly ignited to achieve it. When writing your goal, try to answer the 5 "W" questions:
Asking the right questions can help you not only come up with the right goals. I have listed some questions for you. which answered correctly will help you to be specific to your aim and will show what all is necessary to achieve it
1) what is my goal?
2)Why is this goal important to me?
3) How realistic, specific, and concrete is my goal?
4)How S.M.A.R.T are my goals?
5)How will it benefit in the future?
6)what strategy should I follow to achieve it?
7) )What is the timetable or deadline for my goal?
8)who will mentor me in achieving my goals?
9) what would my life look like if I achieved my goals?
10)what will be my final result?
Make sure you answer the questionnaire correctly. I hope that it will benefit you.
write down your resolution
You might be thinking that why it is important to write down the resolution, why can't we just remember it?
