How to deal with pressure situations?

Suppose, your favorite athlete closes in for the victorious win, the crowd holds it's breathing and at the crucial moment he misses the shot.

It was only because he was already filled with pressure and fear of losing that distracted him from his target.

Despite months even years of practice, a person fails when it matters the most if he doesn't know how to handle the pressure.

Everyone has their own individual pressures. As students, you have pressure to study and improve your grades.

People who got the jobs, go through the pressure of deadline and commitment at work. People who are married are worried about family pressures.

Sportspersons have immense pressure to perform well on the field.

Types of people on the basis of managing the pressure

There are two types of people on the basis of managing the pressure.

(a). Who fears to lose.

This type of people can't handle the pressure and get broken from inside. They leave their work in the middle of the journey just because they want to avoid the pressure situation at any cost.

They do not want to take the simple risks just by thinking about the negative consequences that what will happen if they lose.

They majorly focus on the outcome instead of giving their best. They lack motivation, self-confidence, and determination.

They don't try to be the ringmasters. They prefer to live their lives as it is, without thinking that 'the sour dose is what that sets the venom apart.'

It means you have to work hard and fight each and every pressure situation with courage in order to have a better and improved life.

You can't simply run away from the pressure as life is all about facing the pressures one after the other and move on.

(b). Who dares to fight.

This type of person just changes their perspective of seeing the pressure situations. They take it as an opportunity.

They try to figure out the whole scene instead of just focussing on one aspect that they are afraid of.

They know if they will burn their sweat and work hard bearing the pressure, they will surely get the sweet fruit juice waiting for them the other side. 'In life, you can either be a victim or a survivor'.

Man using scissors to remove the word can't to read I can do it

So it's very important to have a positive mindset under pressure situations as Zig Ziglar said that,' if you focus on problems, you will have more problems. If you focus on the possibilities, you will have more opportunities.'

So if you want to be a survivor, you will have to focus on the possibilities to handle the pressure instead of running away from it.

What happens if you fail to handle the pressure?

While we talk about taking the pressure as an opportunity, it surely doesn't mean that we keep ourselves knowingly under immense pressure that we can't even handle. No, not at all.

According to the National Science Foundation, on average, a person has about 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day. And in a high-pressure situation,  80per cent of those thousands of thoughts are negative.

So if you start thinking of only about the pressure instead of managing it, it symbolizes you have started to think of failure. In this condition, people forget to enjoy their work and life as well.

They keep themselves away from happiness. They start involving themselves in all those activities that affect them physically as well as emotionally. They get irritated easily.

So it's very important to balance the ratio of pressure with respect to your capabilities.

Performance is inversely proportional to pressure. So if you want to improve your performance then you will have to reduce your pressure.

How to manage the pressure?

1. Recognize Your Potential.

Life is ready to build the pressure each and every second. As soon as you get afraid, it will drown you deep down.

So, as a matter of fact, you can't escape it at any stage of your life. You can only manage it.

Researchers estimate that two-thirds of the human has no idea what they are good at and what their strengths are.

So it's very important to recognize the best version of yourself. Remember, life doesn't get easier, it's you who get stronger by going through all the tough times and by managing the pressure each and every day.

You don't become the master overnight. If you are going through the tough times in your life but working on something you really believe in, don't give up, who knows you might end up breaking records.

So never underestimate yourself as Michael Bassey Johnson says,' your real soul may be hiding somewhere, look for it within, when you find yourself, you can freely be what you want to be.'

So put yourself forward and keep fighting because you have the potential to come out as a winner.

2. Don't Panic.

When challenges come back to back to back and it seems like something is after you, something is attacking you, something is after your journey, look for the lesson in it all.

You will grow through what you go through. But the question is are you willing to go through it? When you have pressure on you, what are you going to do? Are you going to let that horrible situation disturb you? Are you going to fall over, fall down, and fall apart? Or are you going to face this pressure with courage and resolutions?

You know darkness. Embrace that darkness. Don't look away from it, own it. Step up to the challenge. No matter what you face. Start walking. Take that first step every day and don't stop until you succeed.

Life can throw some curves at you but you should not panic at all, instead of, you should accept the challenge and work on it.

Somewhere in your heart these words maybe echoing: Am I going to make it? Am I going to survive? When you get into a tight spot and everything goes against you until it seems that you can't hold on for a second longer never give up then. For that is just the space in time that the tide will turn.

So be patient and stay calm all the time. There are times when your energy feels so depleted that you feel like giving up but you keep pushing yourself and that passion for the goal gives you some more strengths to reach your target.

Finally when you succeed then you realize that the pressures you handled, the sacrifices you did and the efforts you put in were all worth it.

3. The Distraction Theory.

The desire to evolve, to become the best and taste the greatness is universal in all human beings.

I mean there is not a single person in the world who doesn't want to be great.

But to become great is not a cup of tea for everyone. It only comes to those who exactly know how to deal with pressure situations at any stage of life.

The distraction theory suggests that the performance suffers when the mind is preoccupied with pressure, fear, and worries instead of drawing the attention on performing the task.

So you have to believe that you will definitely succeed in whatever you are doing.

You have to brainwash yourself that you are unstoppable. You can do miracles if you really make up your mind to do so and stop doubting yourself.

We all know that there is no wine if the grapes are not pressed. There is no perfume if the flowers are not crushed.

So don't get afraid if there are pressures in your life. It will always bring the best out of you.
