How to boost immunity with herbs?

In this dreadful situation of COVID-19 pandemic, there's been great importance to boost one's immune system and thus build the first line of defense against this deadly virus.

It is impossible to build up immunity in a day as already our immunity has decreased due to our lifestyle, in such a way that it doesn't function as it should. But if we maintain a well-balanced diet chart and include exercise in our daily routine, it would be enough to strengthen our immune system and minimize the effects of the infection.

Herbs and immunity 

According to Ayurveda, the well-being of a person depends on the seven layers of the body that are Rasa, Rakta, Mamsa, Asthi, Majja, Shukra. When all this tissue layers function together, it helps to build up the immunity or 'Ojas.'

Ayurveda has also recommended certain plants and plant products that can act as effective immune-boosters and significantly increase the body's immune system against this infection.

Here's a list of immune-boosting herbs 

  1. Holy Basil: Holy Basil, commonly known as Tulsi, is considered as one of the feasible herbs due to its manifold functions to boost immunity. Tulsi leaves are rich in Phytonutrients, minerals and Eugenol, a compound that has antimicrobial properties and can inhibit the growth of more than 25 different pathogens.
  • Simply chewing 4-5 basil leaves in the morning, can build up immunity against various infections.

2. Ginger: Since ages, ginger has been used as a potent remedy for flu and the common cold. Ginger contains an anti-inflammation compound, gingerol, that combat inflammation and increase immunity against various bacteria. It is used explicitly in respiratory tract infection.

You may add ginger in your dishes or may add a little in your tea.

3. Neem: Neem is a well-known herb in Ayurveda, which is widely used in medicine. Neem can boost immunity by detoxifying blood and by removing impurities from your body. It contains both antibacterial and antifungal compounds.

Consuming it in the form of a paste or in tea can help to boost immunity.

4. Garlic: Garlic provides a wide range of health benefits and acts as an elixir of health for many years. Garlic exhibits a broad range of beneficial effects against microbial infection. It contains allicin that reduces inflammation and possesses antioxidant properties.

Consuming two crushed garlic cloves in an empty stomach has a great impact on health.

5. Gooseberry(amla): Amla contains high amounts of Vit C that help to stimulate the production of antibodies and also offer antioxidant properties. It increases the white blood cell in our body that has significant effects on our immune system for fighting against disease.

6. Turmeric: The use of turmeric as an immune booster, is very common and well -known as it contains Curcumin, a phytochemical that remove toxins from the body and can fight against various kind of infection.

7. Black Pepper: Black pepper is one of the best immune-boosting elements that has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant actions. It also protects the intestinal tract by inhibiting pathogens. You can just mix a pinch of black pepper powder into your tea and consume it.

8. Black Cumin: Black cumin extract is also a useful herb that protects your body from various bacteria and viruses and also acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory substance. It is a good source of energy to rejuvenate the body.

All kinds of these herbs are present in our home, so better to use it on a daily basis to build up strong immunity.
