Polythene is a kind of plastic in the form of flexible sheets. It is used for making bags or wrapping things.
Polythene is now widely in public life and in industrial life as well. It is being used for carrying material here and there. The paper bags and cloth bags have been replaced by polythene bags because they are light weight and moisture resistant. They are used to carry light or heavy weight items to long distance. They are cheap and shopkeepers use them liberally and thrown them after use. We go to vegetable market, milk shop,grocer shop to buy any time,solid or liquid. We don't trouble to carry any other bags or containers with us. We put the headache on the shopkeepers to give items of our demand in polythene bags and want to carry them to our house conveniently.All the packed products are packed in plastic bags. But we are unaware of its dangerous aspects.
Polythene bags cause harm to plant life. If these polythene bags are dumped in the soil, the poisonous substances of polythene get blocked among the soil particles.
Many animals die due to swallow polythene bags. It solidifies inside the abdominal cavity which ultimately becomes lethal to the animal.
Polythene is harmful to waterbodies and threatens their life. The chemicals in polythene affect the survival of flora and fauna of the aquatic and marine eco system.
Colourful polybags cause adverse effect to human health. The colourful are containing lead and cadmium which are toxic and harmful to human health. So the food should not be preserved in poly bags.
When they are burnt in open air, they releases hydrogen cyanide which causes cancer.
We should use paper bags or clothe bags instead of poly bags. We should not throw plastic bags here and there. They make the surroundings and atmosphere dirty and swollen by animal. They should be thrown into dustbin and knotted up and thrown in the garbage. So it is the duty of every citizen to make people aware about the harmful effects of polythene as he can.
