FIFA World Cup Qualification: The Battle for CONMEBOL's Five Spots which

The world  Cup will be the 21st FIFA World Cup, an international football tournament that is set to take place in Russia. A total of 32 teams will play in the competition, with each team having to qualify through a series of tests. One such qualification process is the battle for CONMEBOL's five spots. That battle takes place in South America and has attracted enormous interest from all over world.

Argentina

With the anticipation of a World Cup final on the horizon, it is important to consider the battle that is happening on behalf of the five spots in South America. After Chile won the Copa America Centenario, they have earned one spot and need four more to qualify.

Brazil

The Brazilian football federation has been disqualified from the next two World Cups after being found guilty of corruption in their football association.

This is a huge blow to Brazil, who are considered one of the favourites for this world cup and had a chance at defending their title.

Chile

It is no surprise that Chile are the favorites to take one of CONMEBOL's five World Cup spots. They qualified by winning the South American Championship in 2017, and have been consistently ranked in the top 10 FIFA teams since then. Chile will go head-to-head against both Ecuador and Peru in 2018, who have each had recent success qualifying for tournaments with their recent successes.

Colombia

The battle to be named one of the five teams that will compete in the 2018 FIFA World Cup is well underway. Colombia, currently ranked 12th in the world and with a population of 46 million people, has their work cut out for them. They'll need to finish in one of the top three spots in Conmebol qualifying to make it to Russia.

Ecuador

The team has a strong history at the tournament, reaching the Round of 16 in 2002 and 2006. They have not qualified since then, but now they are determined to get back on the world stage.

Paraguay

#1- Uruguay (18th) #2- Ecuador (31st) #3- Paraguay (34th)

Peru

The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) has five spots for the FIFA World Cup, but it's not as easy as it sounds. In order to make the World Cup, teams have to play against each other in a round robin format. Only four teams from CONCACAF make it through to the World Cup. For example, Costa Rica won its first game against Nicaragua with a final score of 2-0 on Tuesday, November 6th.

Uruguay

Qualifying for the World Cup is always an exciting time. Uruguay, one of the region’s top teams, will have to fight off strong competition from other South American nations to book their place in Russia. With five spots available, only four teams will be able to make it through; this means that there are bound to be some nail-biting games over the next few weeks. Here is a breakdown of who these teams are and how they can qualify.

Venezuela

It is fair to say that the qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup has been lackluster. The South American qualifying system consists of 10 teams, five in each group, where the top two from each group qualify automatically and the third-placed team goes into a playoff. Things are not looking good for Venezuela as they have only managed one point from their first three games and have been eliminated from contention.
