Embrace Your Fears

"Courage doesn't mean that you don't get afraid. Courage means that you don't let your fear stop you."

How many of us have experienced the phobia of heights, the heebie-jeebies while standing on the stage or the uneasiness of speaking the truth? Well, fear is a normal feeling everyone faces from day today. However, it is very easy to overcome and become bold. Nothing is impossible so embracing the following top 10 fears is not strenuous at all.

1.Public Speaking (Glossophobia)

Oh yes! This is the most common and yet the most deadly fear. Standing in front of heads of people and speaking even a single word is hellish. Normally, people face this fear because they feel that they may speak something erroneous or beyond the pale and thus they avoid it a lot. So, how to face this fear? Well, try speaking in front of a mirror. Look at your reflection and speak your heart out for a few minutes. Gradually, increase your time limit. Then speak in front of your siblings, then your parents, then your friends, and then your classmates and finally, you'll totally rock at it. Simple but really productive.

2.Fear of heights (Acrophobia)

Seen a person falling from a building after playing the Blue Whale game? And after that, it truly seemed like the end of your life? Ok, I know what it feels like to stand at the 5th or 6th or the 11th or.....the 20th floor of a building and looking down from the balcony is blood-curdling. People face this fear because they sense death from heights, the fear of falling. However, to get a grip on this fear, try to prepare for the challenge. Think of succeding in the height challenge. Breathe in and conjure the image of standing at a great height and succeeding in it. Believe me, it works!

3. Bugs and Insects (Entomophobia)

Thinking of creepy, crawly insects with spiny legs and icky bodies. Ok, ok, sorry. I won't speak so gross. So, many people are afraid of bugs because of the fear of getting bitten or simply because of their gut-churning appearance. Don't worry! You can fight this phobia too! Try to appreciate nature. Read a book about bugs and Insects. Meditation is also really helpful. Take an active part in Entomology programs. Surely then you will then wait for a spider to bite you and turn you to Spiderman!

4. Drowning (Aquaphobia)

Already started thinking of the horrors of drowning in the icy-cold water of the pool? Yes, it's a very common fear too.

People fear ponds, lakes, and pools due to the fear of snakes, sharks, drowning or struggling for air. Try to overcome this by first wetting your feet only in a pool. Then gradually half of your legs till you gradually go deeper inside. Also, try to hold your breath for a few seconds and then minutes and then finally try it in water. Splashing of water on your face in a pool is helpful too.

5. Darkness (Nyctophobia)

Spooky Halloween nights, 3 a.m. at night or a lost in grotesque and dark forest. What could go worse than that? I know that most people, including me, fear the darkness. That is because of the fear of ghosts, seeing an unknown person in the dark; like a nun with a candle (Conjuring!), or a scary, blood thirsty woman. Ok, sorry for scaring, but this truly happens. And you can overcome this phobia by trying to think about nice things at night when the lights are off. Think about rainbows, friends, food and other fascinating things. This is a quick and easy way to fight this fear. Also, don't close all the lights in your bedroom from the first day. Do it gradually so that you become habitual of it. Remain calm and meditate at night. Think positive and you'll fight your fear.

6. Blood or Needles ( Trynapophobia)

Ok, you see someone injecting a fluid in someone's hand or you witness a cut on your palm and blood flows out of it. Will you shriek? Well, people with this phobia faint, panick, pass out or suffer nausea during such situations. Want to overcome it? Well relaxation, breathing and not looking at the needle while you'll be injected will be truly helpful. If you will relax so your muscles won't be tensed so it won't be painful too.

7. No space Or no escape (Claustrophobia)

Feared of being stuck in elevators, automatic car washes or afraid of being lost in a crowded airport or gathering? And you fear of no escape? Don't worry and don't let anxiety strike you! All you need to do is gather hope, think of a pleasant and safe place, look at your watch and see the time pass and think that FEAR IS IRRATIONAL and OK.

8. Flying (Aviophobia)

Yes, this happens! Even flying in a business class flight will cause anxiety to aviophobia patients. They may fear death or plane crashes or even the height. Don't worry, you just have to breathe in, think about a safe flight and answer your 'what if's before entering the plane.

9. Strangers (Xenophobia)

Been in a foreign country and feared the unknown people around you. Well, this is a common fear too. People have this fear because of a past incident of kidnapping or something else like that. Embrace this fear by being bold, mingle with strangers at first, then try to talk to someone even in a coffee shop or mall and always think that there are good people out there too.

10. Zombies (Kinemortophobia)

Nope, I'm not joking! This is a fear issue with kids and adults after watching a horror movie or playing a zombie video game. They then fear the attacks of bloodthirsty and spine chilling zombies. Don't let this fear stop you! Just check the roots of your fear; like when it started. You can watch pleasant movies too and avoid horror films. Always think that zombies aren't real and you won't become one if you are attacked with the Flare virus!

So guys, embracing your fears isn't that strenuous. Fears are irrational and overcoming them isn't impossible for anyone. Embrace your fear today and live a better tomorrow!
