Eating vegetables only can increase the chances of stroke

Important research has revealed that people who eat only vegetables are less likely to have a heart attack while those are more likely at risk of stroke.

In this study, when compared vegetarian with meat-eaters, out of 1000 people, 10 fewer cases of heart attacks and 3 more of a stroke.

The research, published in the British Medical Journal examined the health of 48,000 people over a period of 18 years.

But it could not be said with certainty that these results came about because of their diet or because they were the cause of any other aspect of life.

Experts say that whatever may be people's choice, variety in foods they eat is the best for health.

What did the research reveal?

It also includes research data from Epic and Oxford, which was a long-term health and diet plan.

In this research, from 1993 to 2001, half of the people involved were carnivores, while more than 16,000 were vegetarian. Among them were 7500 people who eat only fish in meat.

Early in the research, people were asked about their dietary habits and this question was repeated in 2010. Elements such as medical history, smoking, and physical exertion we're also considered in the research.

Overall, 2820 people were affected by heart disease and 1,072 were affected by stroke. It also included 300 cases of hemorrhagic paralysis resulting from a weakened artery burst and blood entering the brain.

Heart disease was 13% lower in fish eaters than meat eaters alone. Vegetarians had a 22% lower risk of heart disease.

Vegetarians, on the other hand, were 20 percent more at risk of stroke. Researchers say it may be related to vitamin B12 deficiency, but further research is needed to confirm this.

It is also possible that these diseases are not related to people's diet, and this research only highlights the various elements of the lives of those who do not eat meat.

Does this show that vegetarianism is not healthy?

According to Dr. Frankie Phillips of the Dietetic Association in the UK, vegetarianism is not an unhealthy habit because it was just observational research.

She says, 'They just saw what people were eating and kept an eye on them for years. So this is a relationship. No action results. '

"It gives everyone a message that they should adopt thoughtful dietary habits and eat different types of food."

'Meat diets do not necessarily have different ingredients. Because they may eat meat and potatoes every night and not use any vegetables. '

Did people change their diet after the start of the study?

Researchers asked participants in the study again in 2010 whether they had made any changes to their eating habits and preferences.

Dr. Phillips says there has been a change in the diet of vegetarians.

She says, 'This information was collected two decades ago.

'It may also be that vegetarians were different today than they were 20 to 30 years ago.

“Different types of food are now widely available to vegetarians. It has become very common now. '

We also know that eating excessive meat can be dangerous to health. It has been linked to an increased risk of colon cancer.

So what should be on our plate?

Here is a balance of the principles laid down by the UK Healthcare National Health Service (NHS):

Eat at least five portions of fruits and vegetables a day

The diet should contain high-fiber and starchy foods, such as potatoes, bread, rice or pasta.

Don't forget protein, get it from meat, fish, seafood, lentils, tofu or dried fruits such as almonds or walnuts without salt.

Use milk or alternative diets

Avoid high-fat foods and sugar or salt or eat them in small quantities

In addition, only those who eat vegetables should take care of certain nutrients.

For example, vitamin B12 is important for healthy blood and the nervous system. The amount of meat, milk or fish consumed is sufficient to meet the requirement.

Vitamin B12 is also found in breakfast cereals and yeast spreads, but maybe lacking in vegetarians.

Vegetables do not contain iron easily, so it is important for dieters to add unleavened bread, dried fruits, and pulses to their diet.

Last month, vegetarians were advised that they should include choline nutrients in the diet because it is essential for mental health.
