Break any addiction (Guaranteed)

So when does a habit become an addiction?

An addiction is a compulsive act that one does for pleasure and becomes sort of an obsession with time & we don't even realise it at first. Eventually, one finds it difficult to refrain from such habits which interferes with his day to day life.

Some people are addicted to social media, some do drugs, some are addicted to video games, some to computers and stuff. The list is endless. How can I break my addiction? you may ask. Actually that is a very deep question in itself. I can try to answer it in simple words. Let me divide it into points:

1. Acceptance: Learn to accept that you need to change. Realisation is the key. Motivate & prepare yourself mentally to change those habits.

2. Seek help:  Share your problem with friends, maybe a teacher or whoever you feel comfortable with. Accept their suggestions. It will definitely take some load off your back. 

3. Patience, patience and patience:  It is very hard to quit any addiction, at first. Be patient. A simple trick would be to just decrease the frequency of your addiction, don't quit at once. (Say for example, you continued with your habit for 4 days a week, decrease that to three, then two....)

4. Identify the triggers:  You need to control anything that compels you to do your habit. (*This is the most important step). Block/ remove anything that triggers you or so.

5. Find a hobby:  Most of the urges you get are due to procrastination. Stop wasting your time. Find yourself a suitable hobby to kill some time. Go to the gym or maybe indulge in sports... Do anything to keep yourself busy.
