5 Newest and most exciting and effective class-room activities

Here, I'm going to share 5 newest and most exciting and interesting class-room activities that are exclusively designed for especially, English educators, but other subject teachers also can apply and conduct modifying them as per as their subjects' needs and requirements.

The following activities will help you conduct classes more effectively. Moreover, these activities will not only engage your students in the class-room but also foster public speaking and promote peer relation among them.

1. Basket filler compliment

This is an exciting and engaging outdoor activity that mainly can be conducted on the ground, but if your class-room has got sufficient space, then this can be done in the class-room as well.

For conducting this activity, first appoint one spokesperson who will help you out. Form a big circle having all students and ask them to sit on the ground. Provide them a piece of paper and ask them to write best quality and praising words in one word or in one line about the fellow (Mention his/her name) who is sitting beside on the right hand. Give them some time to do this work but they can not reveal information to anyone. After all students finish doing this task, tell them to fold paper and drop into a small box. Now invite the spokesperson who will pick chits randomly one after another and will read out the information loudly. All will clap for their fellows' compliments.

This activity will enhance emotional intimacy and togetherness among students and build a good relationship.

2. My feet in your shoes

This is a very interesting and effective activity which is mainly designed for especually, lower secondary and secondary level learners. This is basically a memory power activity, but this will help learners strengthen speaking skill and establish a peer relation.

First, form pairs or let them make pairs themselves. All will have partners and ask them sit with partners. They will share every information (name, age, family, hobbies, qualities, aim, like and  dislike) about each other. All will have discussions with their partners and will listen each other carefully.

Now they will exchange their positions and will speak about each other ie. Student 'A' will share information about student 'B' and student 'B' will speak about student 'A' (Optional- they can speak using first pronoun 'I' also).

Invite each pair in front to share information. They will listen, check and count missing information. The ones who will miss some information while speaking will be given some funny punishments.

3. Ball in my court

This is an exciting and engaging outdoor activity that can be conducted like a football match.

In this game, players have to pass the ball to teammates and snatch or grab the ball  from opponent team instead of kicking the ball.

Prepare some interesting and funny questions related any subject and arrange a ball and whistle. Divide the class into two teams and set a fixed time for 35 minutes to end the game. If it is possible manage some audience too.

While they pass, snatch or grab the ball, whistle randomly and all will stop. The player who is caught holding the ball, he/she has to face off the question. The correct answer will earn a point for his/her team. Continue the game in the same manner till the restricted time.

At the end of the game, count total points of both teams. The team with more scores will be winner and they will shout out 'Ball in my court'.

4. Introduce product

This is basically a project work based activity, for preparation can be done by students at home. They can prepare model or design of any product, such as mobile, toothpaste, fairness cream, shopping mall, etc. Encourage and help them to choose or design a suitable product and ask them prepare short description with its name, its features/qualities, its uses/instructions and price/rate (They can do/perform in pair as well)

Set up the class-room as a small exhibition hall and allocate each student at the place/corner. Now invite each individual to give a short presentation about his/her product.

5. What is the total number?

To run this activity, first prapare  a list of 12-14 words in topsy-turvy and zigzag manner. Write or type them in different font sizes (14, 18, 22, 40, 36 or in any size) and different shapes, such as bold letters, italic, small letters, caligraphy, cursive shapes, etc.

Prepare words or letters in a way that some letters should be repeated multiple times. Get their copies according to the total numder of students and be prepared with some questions (total number for all letters mentioned in the list) and their answers as you should know total numbers for each question.

Hand out list to each student and ask them to read the words thoroughly once.

Now ask the total number for letters according to your questions list. For an example: What is the total number of 'B'  or How many times is letter 'B repeated in the list. Someone shouts '5' or '7' quickly. The one who answers first, he/she will be awarded or the one who comes up with more answers will be awarded.

All above clas-room activities are going to be interesting and effective while conducting classes. Hopefully, you will read it and apply in your class-room.
