1. Always active

Did you know that our brain always active even when we are sleeping? The brain is divided into four pairs of lobes on each side of the head. Each of the lobes have different functions.

The frontal lobe is involved in cognitive process such as learning and creativity. It also help us make memories, and learn to regulate emotions and behaviour.

The parietal lobes are involved in a mixture functions. These includes sensory and numerical process, as well as visuo-spatial information.

The temporal lobe also receive information relating to sounds-including the language we hear. The occipital lobes are involved in visual processing.

2. 24/7 receiving information

The brain receiving a flow of information non-stop which is controlled by two pathways. Sensory information flows into the brain and motor information flows out of it.

Sensory information is involuntarily actions. For example, position of your muscles and joints is always being sent to the brain. Unfortunately, we rarely notice it until it becomes uncomfortable.

Motor information is voluntary actions. For examle, picking things up. Plus, motor actions can only be involuntarily actions. For example, breathing.

3. Brain surgery does not hurt

The actual brain surgery does not hurt at all. This happen because the brain does not have specialised pain receptor called nociceptors. The only painful parts of the surgery are when the incision is made through the skin, skull, and meninges.

This can be proves by a viral video of a woman playing the violin while the surgeons operated to remove her brain tumor.

4. Brain damage can alter people personality

There is a man named Phineas Gage. He used to be a responsible and excellent worker. One day, an accident occur at work which caused a metal rod to go through to his skull. This event caused a drastic change in his personality. He become childish, disrespectful and impulsive.

Gage showed 19th-century scientists that damage to the frontal lobe can cause significant personality changes.

Hence, it is not a suprise when you meet people who used to be normal and now crazy.

5. About 20% of the body's blood goes to the brain.

The brain receives between 15-20 percent of blood from the heart at rest. The percentage of blood flows into the brain can be varies regarding many factors. This include age, gender, and weight.

Heart pumping 2,000 gallons of blood a day. Thats means about 400 gallons of blood a day are delivered to the brain. Wow! that is fascinating to know.

When people suffering stroke, blood supply to the area of the brain are interrupted. Researchers found that more strokes are always happen on the left side of the brain. People who are right-hand side might be more likely to suffer loss of functionality after a stroke.
