10 FACTS EVERYONE SHOULD BE AWARE ABOUT COVID-19

From the past three months, we have been facing an unprecedented challenge in the name of "coronavirus" which not only threaten public health but also induced recession in the global economy. Despite the toll it took all these days, scientists are warning that this is just the tip of the iceberg and there's a long way ahead.

In order to protect ourselves from the pandemic, we must follow the rules laid by the government. Moreover, there are certain obligations on us like staying at home, maintaining social distance, washing hands frequently, using a mask, and other precautions. However, one should be aware of some basic facts about the virus. Here in this article, we have shared some facts about the virus which could help us in battling the pandemic.

FACTS ABOUT THE VIRUS:

  • The First Novel Coronavirus case came into light in the Chinese City Wuhan in December 2019.
  • The coronavirus is scientifically named as SARS-COV-2 by the International Committee in the taxonomy of viruses (ICTV), whereas Covid-19 is the name of the disease given by the WHO.
  • The outbreak of coronavirus had been declared as  'Pandemic' by the WHO which means " An outbreak of a disease that occurs over a wide geographic area and affects an exceptionally high proportion of the population".
  • The covid-19 belongs to the family of viruses which affect respiratory system like Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS 2012) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS 2002).
  • It is a highly contagious virus, spreads through physical contact with the infected person or through his/her nasal droplets.
  • According to the WHO, the most common symptoms of coronavirus are fever, fatigue, dry cough, nasal congestion, sore throat, runny nose, and diarrhea.
  • The assessment of the Reproductive number i.e., the RO of the virus is still under progress due to its severe intensity.
  • The infection rate of coronavirus is very high but the mortality rate is lower than the SARS virus.
  • It is known that people of underage and old age are prone to more risk when comes to contact with an infected person.
  • Being with your pets is absolutely fine as there is no such evidence of the spread of the virus through pet dogs or cats.

To protect our human race, we must protect our frontline workers first. Doctors, policemen, sanitation workers are playing a key role in breaking the chain and there is a responsibility for us to support them. They are toiling day and night putting their lives at risk for us. We must be thankful to them for their valuable service.

This is the toughest battle we've ever faced in the history of mankind with an invisible enemy. It reminds us that we are a part of nature's and no one is supreme to nature. We hope that this crisis will end soon and we will be back to our normalcy in a short time. Till then we should stay strong and united and put our blood and brain in defeating our common enemy.
