Valentine’s Day 2020: Why is it celebrated on 14 February?

Valentine's day widely known on 14 February across the world. As we all know that in India, people celebrate the festival along with side joy whether is it Holi, Diwali, or Christmas, etc. Every festival has its own history and importance. Similarly, Valentine Day has additionally celebrated everywhere the planet and his own history behind it.

Why is Valentine Day celebrated on 14 February?

Several legends are related to Valentine's Day. Valentine Day is known as after an individual and his name was Saint Valentine. Consistent with the legend, the story of his loving day isn't crammed with love. It's a few confrontations between a Saint Valentine and a cruel king. Saint Valentine was a priest in Rome and served during the third century.

It is said that he was against relationship and marriage. He believed that by love or marriage, soldiers forget their goals and therefore the husband is usually worried about what is going to happen to his family after his death. Thanks to the concern, he's unable to pay full attention to the battle. Keeping this in mind, king Claudius announced that no soldier of his kingdom will marry and anyone who didn't hear him is going to be punished severely. All the soldiers were unhappy with his decision of the king but there was a saint in Rome named Valentine who didn't accept the choice of the king. He started marrying the soldiers by hiding from the king. When King Claudius got the news, he sentenced Saint Valentine to death. 

According to another legend, Saint Valentine sent the primary 'valentine' greeting to his lover and wrote himself. In those days, while Valentine was expecting the date of his death that's 14 February, he fell crazy with a lass. She was the daughter of his jailer Asterius. Although the reality behind the Valentine legends is unknown, the popularity was one among the foremost popular saints in England and France.  

Some people believe that Valentine Day is widely known within the middle of February to recollect Saint Valentine. Due to Saint Valentine's sacrifice, Valentine Day is known as after him and celebrated on 14 February. The anniversary of Valentine Day was probably around 270 A.D. In February 498 A.D., the pope announced to celebrate 14 February as Valentine Day. In France and England, it had been generally believed that the mating season of birds began from 14 February. Which also added to the thought that 14 February should be each day for love. The oldest known Valentine still exists today was a poem written by Charles, Duke of Orleans. He wrote his poem for his wife while he was a manuscript collection of the British Library in London, England.

 

Valentine's Day: A Pagan Festival 

To commemorate the birth anniversary of Saint Valentine's death around 270 A.D. Christian church may have decided to celebrate Valentine's fate day within the middle of February with an attempt to "Christianise" the pagan celebration of Lupercalia. It had been a fertility festival dedicated to Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture and also to the Roman founders Romulus and Remus.

In Great Britain around the 17th century, Valentine's day became popular and celebrated. By the center of the eighteenth century, hand-written letters were common among friends and lovers. By the top of the century, printed cards were being replaced in lieu of letters. Ready-made cards were a simple way for people to precise their feelings. In mid-1800, first commercial valentine cards were printed within us.

Valentine's day is widely known across the world and is popular within us, Britain, Canada, Australia, Argentina, France, Mexico, and South Korea, etc.   

On today, all the lovers within the world express their feeling and remember Saint Valentine.
